Lewis Hamilton ‘Absolutely Furious’ with Qualifying Struggles, Convinced Pole Position Was Within Reach at Monza
Lewis Hamilton was "extremely angry" about the qualifying "shortcoming."
Lewis Hamilton believed he had the potential to compete for the top position at Monza.
Lewis Hamilton expressed his intense frustration regarding his qualifying results at the Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix.
The seven-time world champion secured the sixth starting position for Sunday’s race at Monza, finishing just 0.186 seconds behind the pole sitter. His teammate, George Russell, outperformed him by securing third place.
Lewis Hamilton, who had led two out of the three practice sessions, firmly believed he had the potential to compete for a front-row starting position. However, he admitted responsibility for not achieving it, stating, "I have only myself to blame."
Hamilton expressed his intense frustration to Sky, noting that he had the potential to secure pole position. He added that he could have at least started from the front row but ultimately fell short of delivering the necessary performance.
"I lost 0.15 seconds in Turns 1 and 2 and then another 0.1 seconds at the final corner. It's entirely my own fault."
"Performing well in the qualifying rounds has been a challenge for me for a while now, and I haven't been able to solve it. I'll continue to put in the effort."
When questioned about how he plans to overcome the setback and prepare for Sunday’s grand prix, Hamilton responded: “I’ll likely spend a few hours berating myself.”
In the end, I need to keep progressing. The car performed well, and the team has done an excellent job over the weekend.
"The car's performance has significantly improved since the last race, and the team truly deserves a better outcome. Perhaps Kimi [Antonelli] can help achieve that."
This season, Hamilton has been outqualified by Russell in 12 out of 16 races.
Hamilton thinks he has no shot at competing for a win in the grand prix on Sunday.
"The opportunity to compete for a race victory is gone, so tomorrow I need to focus on making up as much ground as possible. I’ll see if I can overtake the Ferraris and aim for a podium finish," he said.
