**Leclerc Voices Concerns Over Ferrari’s Performance Despite Strong Friday Showing at Singapore GP**
Charles Leclerc acknowledged that the Ferrari F1 car wasn't performing as he had hoped during the Friday practice session, stating, "The car wasn't exactly how I wanted it to be. There's still room for improvement."
Charles Leclerc acknowledged that his Ferrari Formula 1 car wasn't performing as he had hoped, even though he posted the second-best time in Friday's practice session for the Singapore Grand Prix.
Leclerc was just under a tenth of a second slower than Lando Norris, who posted the fastest time, while Carlos Sainz was considerably further back.
Looking back on his Friday at the Marina Bay Street Circuit, Leclerc admitted that Ferrari can't simply "count on having a good Friday."
Leclerc expressed mixed feelings, saying, "It was a positive experience, but there's still room for improvement." He noted that the car's performance wasn't quite to his liking and highlighted the need for further enhancements. Additionally, he mentioned that the weather forecast for the remainder of the weekend remains unpredictable.
"We need to adjust rapidly. We can't depend on a successful Friday. While it's great that this Friday went well—better than having a bad one—we must use it as a foundation and continue to make progress."
“We just need to fine-tune the car to improve its overall balance while driving. If we do that, we should be well-prepared for tomorrow.”
Leclerc was ahead of Sainz by 0.5 seconds, with Mercedes and Red Bull trailing even further behind.
As a result, he anticipates that Ferrari's competitors will be "significantly closer" during the qualifying rounds.
“We’re definitely contenders, but let’s wait and see,” Leclerc commented. “I’m just hoping the situation remains similar tomorrow. I’d be quite shocked if we maintain the same lead today and the same distance between me and the third-place driver.”
"I think people will be more connected tomorrow. The competition will be tougher. After that, we need to determine if it alters the hierarchy."
Sainz attributed his lag behind Leclerc to problems with his brakes.
Describing the issue, he mentioned: "This has been a recurring theme for us this year. Typically, we encounter brake problems on Fridays, and today I experienced them myself. During FP2, the brakes were very inconsistent, particularly during laps and outlaps. There were numerous issues, which is not ideal for building confidence or getting ready for the weekend."
“It doesn’t worry me as long as we can organize everything by tomorrow.”
