Leclerc Hails ‘Miracle’ Podium as Ferrari Analyzes Dutch GP Success
Charles Leclerc believes that Ferrari should investigate the reasons behind their surprisingly strong performance that led to a podium finish in the Dutch Grand Prix, which he described as a "miracle."
Charles Leclerc believes Ferrari must uncover the reasons behind their unexpected podium finish at the F1 Dutch Grand Prix.
Following a sixth-place qualification, trailing McLaren’s Lando Norris by almost a second, Leclerc minimized Ferrari’s prospects for advancement in Sunday’s grand prix.
However, the driver from Monaco swiftly overtook Sergio Perez and maintained impressive speed during the race, ultimately securing the third position on the podium ahead of Oscar Piastri’s McLaren.
Leclerc confessed that he was extremely astonished by what he called a “miracle” podium, especially considering Ferrari's poor performance on Saturday.
Leclerc expressed to Sky that he had believed only a miracle could get them on the podium today, and astonishingly, that miracle occurred.
"It's a pleasant surprise, and I'm quite pleased. Although I'm usually not content with a third-place finish, considering we started in sixth position and had low expectations for this race, we should be happy with the outcome."
"While we often scrutinize everything after an unexpected setback on Sunday, it's equally important to evaluate things when we are pleasantly surprised on a Sunday."
To maintain our peak performance consistently, we need to comprehend exactly what modifications we've made to these cars, as both Carlos and I have shown exceptional strength.
“There’s obviously something beneficial in the car’s design. Regrettably, as a team, we don’t seem to have an explanation for it.”
Carlos Sainz highlighted Ferrari's better race performance, moving up from 11th place at the start to secure a fifth-place finish.
When questioned about the factors behind the team's performance surpassing expectations, Ferrari's team principal Fred Vasseur remarked: "It's been extremely competitive since the start of the season."
"Whether you're leading the pack or trailing behind, the competition is fierce. This weekend, Lando is performing on another level, but the race is close for everyone else."
"From the start of the season, I believe we've been stronger in race conditions compared to qualifying. Today, we talked about how crucial it is for the team to maximize our performance with the resources available."
"It's never out of the question, but we were aware that winning with Lando this weekend would be challenging. Nonetheless, we needed to perform well and maximize our capabilities. I'm extremely satisfied with the team's efforts."
"From the beginning to the strategic planning, including pit stops and tire management, I believe we maximized our efforts and achieved an excellent result for the team."
Formula 1 is now moving to Monza for the Italian Grand Prix next weekend, which is the home race for Ferrari.
