Lando Norris Leads Second Hungarian GP Practice Amid Leclerc Crash Drama
Lando Norris led the field in the second practice session for the Hungarian Grand Prix, while Charles Leclerc experienced a crash. Norris clocked the fastest time, with Max Verstappen trailing behind him.
In the second practice session of the F1 Hungarian Grand Prix, Lando Norris topped the charts, although the session was cut short due to an accident involving Charles Leclerc.
Lando Norris of McLaren led by 0.243 seconds over current world champion Max Verstappen, who was driving the heavily improved Red Bull RB20. Carlos Sainz from Ferrari secured third place, trailing by 0.397 seconds.
The quickest laps of the session occurred following an extended red flag interruption, which happened because Leclerc spun out and collided with the barriers at Turn 5 while driving his Ferrari.
Leclerc veered off onto the kerb at the exit of Turn 4 and experienced a high-speed spin that sent him crashing into the barriers on the opposite side of the track. This incident resulted in damage to the left side of his Ferrari and the front wing.
Ferrari led the way in the first practice session, testing a new floor design on their car to address recent bouncing problems that have affected their performance.
Sergio Perez moved up to fourth place in the afternoon session, surpassing Mercedes' George Russell. Meanwhile, Kevin Magnussen, who is set to leave Haas, and seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, who recently won the British Grand Prix, followed behind.
Daniel Ricciardo secured the eighth position in his Red Bull car, while Alex Albon and Fernando Alonso rounded out the top ten for Williams and Aston Martin, respectively.
Shortly after the session restarted post red flag, Sauber’s Zhou Gaunyu and Perez had a close call.
Zhou approached a sluggish Perez on the way to Turn 5 and spun out wildly, almost colliding with the Mexican driver, whom he criticized over the team radio.
“What the heck is up with this Red Bull?” Zhou shouted in frustration.
