Lando Norris Advocates for Carlos Sainz’s Red Bull Move Amid Williams Signing for F1 2025
Lando Norris believes that Carlos Sainz "should have moved" to Red Bull for the 2025 F1 season. "In my opinion, he should have taken that opportunity. Admittedly, I'm biased because I know Carlos better than I know Checo [Perez], but I think Carlos has earned this chance."
McLaren's Lando Norris believes that Carlos Sainz should have joined Red Bull as his next Formula 1 team.
Williams revealed earlier this week that Sainz will join their team as a driver for the 2025 Formula 1 season, partnering with Alex Albon.
This concludes several months of rumors regarding Sainz's future and its broader impact on the Formula 1 driver market.
Sainz was frequently associated with potential moves to Sauber and Alpine, as he postponed his choice to wait for possible opportunities at Red Bull or Mercedes.
Norris, who partnered with Sainz at McLaren during the 2019 and 2020 seasons, believes the Spanish driver should have been invited to join Red Bull.
"I’m not sure what the strategies of the leading teams are, but the obvious choice to mention is Red Bull," he stated in an interview with Sky.
"In my opinion, he should have gone there. I admit I might be partial since I know Carlos better than I know Checo [Perez], but Carlos is very deserving."
"He has repeatedly demonstrated his status as a top-tier Formula 1 driver. I consider him a close friend."
Williams' decision to sign Sainz marks a significant milestone for the team, providing them with their most formidable driver pairing since 2016.
Even though James Vowles' team is among the three slowest in Formula 1, their project is making progress.
Commenting on Sainz's transition to Williams, Norris expressed his satisfaction, stating, "I'm pleased for him that he's remaining in Formula 1. I'm glad he secured a seat for 2025 and has the opportunity to help revive Williams."
"Having him team up with Alex Albon will be beneficial for Formula 1 overall."
“That’s positive news, but I believe many people would argue that he should have joined Red Bull instead. However, that’s not up to me to decide.”
Red Bull has shown support for Sergio Perez through the season's end, though his position for the next year remains uncertain as Helmut Marko hints at possible alterations in 2025.
