Land Rover enthüllt Defender Octa: Ein Luxus-Terrain-Supercar mit 635 PS
The Land Rover Defender Octa: A High-End Off-Road Racer with 635 Horsepower
This rival to the AMG G 63 sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds and boasts a wading depth of 100 millimeters
Over recent years, we've witnessed the growling prototypes of the Land Rover Defender speed around the Nürburgring, leading us to speculate about its true nature. Could it be a Defender SVR? Something excessively sporty given its weight and class? Turns out, it's something even more outrageous. Introducing the new Land Rover Defender Octa, the most powerful and extreme Defender to date.
Land Rover has indeed constructed a type of luxury racing SUV. It sounds quite odd, but that description probably best captures what we're looking at. Powering the Octa is the familiar 4.4-liter Biturbo V8 from BMW, which in this instance delivers 635 horsepower and 750 Nm of torque. When pushed into the so-called Dynamic Launch mode, it can even reach 800 Nm.
However, this latest iteration of the Defender is more than just an increase in engine power. We're witnessing an entirely new chassis and an extensive revamp of both the exterior and interior aimed at "unleashing the full potential of the Defender," as series head Mark Cameron puts it.
The latest Defender from Octa is the first to be equipped with Land Rover's advanced "6D Dynamics" suspension system, featuring interconnected hydraulic dampers. The vehicle has undergone significant upgrades to its hardware and design to ensure it performs equally well during dynamic on-road driving and off-road adventures, all without sacrificing quality, according to Land Rover.
Thanks to the innovative advanced suspension system, the Defender Octa now boasts a 28-millimeter increase in ride height and a 68-millimeter expansion in track width. This is complemented by longer and stiffer control arms, along with new active shock absorbers that feature separate pressure reservoirs. The combination of these enhancements aims to minimize body roll and boost maximum axle articulation off-road. Additionally, contributing to this perfect blend of features is an upgraded 400-mm Brembo brake system and the quickest steering ratio ever seen in a Defender.
The Octa can go from a standstill to 100 km/h in just 4.2 seconds and is capable of reaching a top speed of 250 km/h, provided it's equipped with the 22-inch all-season tires rather than the hefty 33-inch Goodyear off-road tires.
The latest speed enhancement to the Defender model does not compromise its ability to navigate off-road terrain. In fact, it enhances it. For instance, the ability to wade through water 100 millimeters deep sets a new high standard within the Defender range.

The wheel arches had to be expanded to accommodate the 33-inch tires, uniquely crafted by Goodyear for the Octa model, marking the largest tires to ever be fitted on a stock Defender. Power-seeking customers are unlikely to have any grievances about this. The redesigned bumpers enhance the vehicle's approach and departure angles, and the fresh grill design is meant to optimize airflow to the engine.
At the rear, the four tailpipes of the active exhaust system protrude from the bumper. An aluminum alloy underbody protection with a graphite finish, along with exposed bronze tow hooks, give it a sophisticated yet rugged appearance.
The interior of the Octa has been upgraded with new performance seats that offer increased lateral support and have built-in headrests. For the first time, a Defender is equipped with the company's "Body and Soul" audio technology, which, in tandem with six distinct wellness programs, promises a multi-dimensional sound experience. Additionally, there are two new seat upholstery options made from "Ultrafabrics" that are 30% lighter than traditional leather, although leather comes standard in the Octa.
Orders for the "most dynamic Defender ever" will officially begin on July 31. In Germany, pricing will commence at 185,000 euros, positioning it roughly in the same bracket as the Mercedes-AMG G 63 (that is, if one were available). The new high-performance SUV will make its public and dynamic debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2024, which runs from July 11 to 14.
