Labour has refuted allegations that it is proposing peerages to ex-Labour MPs in exchange for their resignation, thereby clearing the way for Sir Keir Starmer's preferred nominees.
Several former Labour MPs, who leaned towards the left and served until the recent dissolution for elections, informed The Times that they were promised peerages in the House of Lords as an incentive to vacate their parliamentary positions.
Yvette Cooper, the Labour Party's shadow home secretary, said on Sky News's "Sunday Morning With Trevor Phillips" that no political party has the ability to operate in such a manner, emphasizing that it contradicts the functional norms of the system.
She emphasized that a comprehensive procedure exists, involving an independent committee responsible for reviewing nominations to the Lords, making it impossible for Sir Keir, or any other party leader, to guarantee anyone a position there.
The claim emerged following accusations that Sir Keir was attempting to remove more left-leaning candidates from the party.
Long-serving Member of Parliament Diane Abbott has criticized him for effectively purging left-leaning members of the Labour Party, following the disqualification of prospective candidates Faiza Shaheen and Lloyd Russell-Moyle from running for office.
Ex-leader Jeremy Corbyn accused Sir Keir of actively participating in a "purge" against left-wing candidates, in a statement to Sky News.
However, Sir Keir has refuted these claims, stating his aim is to attract "the most exceptional candidates."
The debate over whether Ms. Abbott, the inaugural black female MP, will be permitted to run for the Labour Party has dominated news coverage during the initial week of the election campaign.
When Trevor Phillips inquired whether she anticipates Ms. Abbott will represent Labour in Hackney North and Stoke Newington, Ms. Cooper responded, "I assume so, yes."
"I'm really pleased that the issue has been settled for Diane. She remains a significant presence within the Labour Party."

Ms. Abbott has been reinstated with the Labour Party whip at the start of this week, following a year-long probe into a letter she authored which claimed that Jewish, Irish, and Traveller communities are not subject to racism.
Chaos ensued after she announced that she was prohibited from running as the Labour candidate for Hackney North and Stoke Newington, a position she has occupied for 37 years.

Sir Keir stated that no decision had been made yet and that it was not his decision to make, but rather a matter for the party's national executive committee.
On Friday, he stated, "She has the freedom to proceed as a Labour candidate."
Ms. Abbott stated that she will refrain from commenting until she receives formal approval from the party's National Executive Committee, which is expected next week.
She informed Sky News that "the story appears to be optimistic."
According to sources within the Labour Party, she is slated to represent the party in her East London constituency, with the official confirmation anticipated during Tuesday's meeting.
