**Kevin Magnussen Reflects on Haas F1 Departure and Future Prospects Ahead of Hungarian Grand Prix**
Kevin Magnussen learned about his dismissal from Haas F1 during a phone call | Considering alternative opportunities
Kevin Magnussen comments on his removal from Haas before the Hungarian Grand Prix.
Kevin Magnussen disclosed that Ayao Komatsu, the head of the Haas F1 team, informed him via a phone call that he would be let go.
Ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix on Thursday, Haas revealed that they will be ending their association with Magnussen.
Since 2017, the Danish driver has competed for Haas, with the exception of the 2021 season when the team chose Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin instead.
Magnussen achieved the team's first-ever pole position at the 2022 Sao Paulo Grand Prix, but has faced challenges in maintaining performance since Nico Hulkenberg joined the team last year.
It is anticipated that Esteban Ocon will take over the Dane's position, while Oliver Bearman has already been secured.
While addressing the press in Hungary, with Crash.net reporters on the scene, Magnussen shared how he learned about the decision and his initial response to losing his position at Haas.
When questioned about how he received the news, he answered, "Over the phone."
Speaking candidly, Magnussen reflected on his long tenure with the Haas F1 team, stating, "I've been involved with Haas since their debut in Formula 1, and I truly feel like a family member here. Departing at the end of the season will feel odd, but all things must conclude eventually. Besides, it's still quite early in the season."
"Haas has moved forward with plans to finalize their driver lineup for next year well in advance. It's understandable, given that there are still available seats, and I have no issues with that."
Haas has had an impressive start to the 2024 Formula 1 season, currently holding the seventh spot in the constructors' standings, trailing RB by only four points.
Magnussen admitted he wished he could remain with Haas to witness the "results" of their recent progress.
"Well, it's a bit of both. If you ask me whether I wanted to stay, I'd say yes, because it would have been exciting to witness the progress we've made here recently," he commented.
"While that would have been intriguing, I believe there are other fascinating projects to consider, and there are still open spots in Formula 1 that might be worth exploring."
Magnussen mentioned that he is considering different possibilities for his future in F1, with Alpine, Williams, and Sauber yet to finalize their driver rosters for the 2025 season.
"Absolutely," he answered when questioned about whether he has had discussions with other teams.
"Although Carlos is currently delaying the process, it will progress eventually. For now, I believe the most important thing is to concentrate on performing well in the races. By doing so, we will be in a good position for the available seats, and everything will eventually work out."
He stated: "I have many acquaintances. When I decide to step out of my comfort zone, I simply engage in conversations. I stay connected with everyone."
"Even after securing a contract in Formula 1 for the following year, I continued to have conversations with others. So, yes, I do talk to people, but it's not as if I'm negotiating any new contracts or anything of that sort."
