Kevin Magnussen Hits Historic 12 Penalty Points, Earns Monza Ban: First F1 Driver to Miss Race Since 2012
Kevin Magnussen will miss the next Formula 1 race due to receiving 12 penalty points after the Monza event.
Kevin Magnussen is set to miss the Azerbaijan Grand Prix as he has accumulated 12 penalty points on his Formula 1 license, resulting in a one-race suspension.
During the Italian Grand Prix at Monza on Sunday, the Haas driver received a 10-second penalty and two penalty points for a collision with Pierre Gasly of the Alpine team.
Magnussen had accumulated 10 penalty points prior to this incident. With the addition of two more points, he has now become the first Formula 1 driver ever to reach the 12-point limit, resulting in an automatic suspension for one race.
Due to this, he will be unable to participate in the upcoming race in Baku.
Haas has yet to announce his replacement, but it is expected that Oliver Bearman, who is set to drive for the team full-time next season, will take over.
Magnussen secured a 10th place finish at Monza, earning one point for the Haas team.
The Danish driver is the first to receive a race ban since Romain Grosjean in 2012.
