Kevin Magnussen Faces Uncertain F1 Future as Contract Expiry Looms: ‘Chance It Will Happen’ Admits At-Risk Driver
Under Threat: Kevin Magnussen Concedes Possibility of F1 Exit
"I will explore other opportunities only if every avenue in F1 is shut."
Kevin Magnussen has confessed that his place in Formula 1 for the next year is uncertain.
The Haas racer is among several drivers this season who have contracts ending and face an unclear future.
Aware of the limited spots available in the 2025 F1 driver roster, Magnussen understands he could be left without a seat.
According to Motorsport Week, he confirmed that there is a possibility of it occurring.
Magnussen asserted, "My desire is to compete in Formula 1."
"I’m focusing on this right now. I’ll consider other options only if every possible opportunity is unavailable."
Magnussen has previously been let go from F1. In 2014, after his debut season with McLaren, he was removed from his position as a full-time driver in 2015, but made a comeback with Renault the following year.
"When I was younger, an event like this would likely have caused me more stress," he remarked.
"I would have experienced greater pressure."
"However, I can now set it aside effectively, hop in the car, and give it my all."
Kevin Magnussen has only managed to earn a single point across nine races, while his teammate Nico Hulkenberg has accumulated seven points and has been praised for exceeding expectations.
Hulkenberg has confirmed his place with Sauber for the 2025 season.
Consequently, Haas has contemplated offering Ollie Bearman his initial full-time position.
Esteban Ocon, who is leaving Alpine, has been identified as a target by Haas team principal Ayao Komatsu.
Magnussen emphasized that he is a significantly better driver compared to the previous year.
"I struggled to get used to the car, particularly during the qualifying sessions."
"This year, things are a lot simpler for me. However, many circumstances didn't work out in my favor."
"I've encountered traffic numerous times. During the second lap in either Q1 or Q2, there always seems to be an issue, whether it's a sudden problem or a poorly executed out-lap, something along those lines."
“If we happen to have a strong race, the safety car might appear at an inopportune moment.
"This year feels like there's constantly something working against you."
"Consider the situation at Imola. Out of nowhere, a McLaren exits the pits right in front of me, and it's not even starting its lap. How could anyone anticipate that?"
"It prevents me from securing a strong starting spot. During the race, my speed is excellent, and I come very close to earning points."
“If it weren't for the misfortune, I would have been close to the top 10 at the beginning.”
"And it would have certainly earned points."
