Juri Vips Finds Redemption: Former Red Bull Junior to Race in IndyCar for Rahal Letterman Lanigan at Portland Grand Prix
Dismissed Red Bull driver finds new opportunity in American motorsports
"This year, he has been instrumental in our simulator work, aiding our comprehension of the hybrid system"
Juri Vips, previously dismissed from the Red Bull junior team, has secured a fresh chance in the world of motorsports.
He is set to compete in the IndyCar series for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing at the Portland Grand Prix this August.
In 2022, Vips' agreement with Red Bull ended after he used a racial slur during a live stream on Twitch.
He served as the reserve driver for the F1 team, supporting Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez, while also competing in Formula 2, until he was let go.
In the past two years, Vips has discovered a new opportunity with IndyCar, where he is now poised for another significant chance.
Juri Vips is set to drive for the Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing team once again, marking his third appearance with the team. He previously competed in races held in Portland and Laguna Seca during the past year. In the Portland race last year, Vips began and ended the race in 18th position.
This year, Vips is set to be behind the wheel of the No. 75 AMADA Honda
He expressed his gratitude to the team for providing him with this chance.
“I've been collaborating with the team on the simulator program, and although it's been a year since I last drove the car, I believe the experience I gained last year at Portland and Laguna Seca will help me quickly get back up to speed.”
"It remains an enormous challenge, and I'm eagerly anticipating it."
One of the team's co-owners, Bobby Rahal, expressed his satisfaction by stating, "We are happy to have the opportunity to race Juri in Portland for several reasons."
"Firstly, he demonstrated at both the Portland and Laguna Seca races last year that he definitely has the speed to be competitive in any event he participates in with our team."
“This year, he has put in significant effort working with us in the simulator, aiding our comprehension of the hybrid system. It’s rewarding to acknowledge his hard work.”
"I am optimistic that this will result in additional races for him with RLL."
