Jos Verstappen Slams Red Bull and Horner Amid ‘Serious Situation’ as Max Struggles Continue
Jos Verstappen, visibly upset, expresses his lack of confidence in Christian Horner's ability to address what he considers a "serious situation." He insists that Red Bull should stop consistently downplaying issues.
Jos Verstappen has severely criticized Red Bull and Christian Horner following the Dutch Grand Prix in Formula 1.
Max Verstappen, his son, secured second place in his home race, trailing behind Lando Norris. However, the main issue was the significant gap between him and the winner.
McLaren's Norris secured victory with a 22-second lead, while Verstappen has not won in the last five races as they approach the Monza event this weekend.
The F1 champion's candid father expressed his disappointment to Bild, stating that anything over 20 seconds is extremely unsatisfactory.
"Max was never in a position to secure a victory. This becomes clear when you analyze the car's design from the ground up."
Red Bull returned to using components from earlier in the season to handle the challenges of the Zandvoort circuit.
“That sums it up,” remarked Jos Verstappen. “The team made several mistakes along the way.
“On the inside, you should reflect on yourself instead of always ignoring the details.”
"We must reflect on our actions now before it's too late."
"The team is losing its valuable members, and this situation is making me very dissatisfied."
Adrian Newey, the chief technology officer, is set to leave Red Bull next year and is expected to move to a competing team. Meanwhile, Jonathan Wheatley, the sporting director, is slated to take on the role of team principal at Audi.
Jos Verstappen emphasized, "It's no longer possible to downplay the gravity of the situation."
“Max won't be happy with just having a car like that. Now, it's Horner's responsibility to steer the team in the right direction again."
Verstappen Senior was questioned about his confidence in Horner’s capability to lead the team back to victory.
Jos Verstappen expressed his current stance, stating that while he would be surprised, his answer is no.
"Much needs to occur. The overall mindset must undergo a transformation."
The bond between the head of the Red Bull team and the father of their leading driver has been tense throughout the year.
Earlier in the season, Verstappen's father demanded Horner be fired.
Max Verstappen's father made a rare move by using social media to refute claims that his son had deliberately driven slowly, failing to push his car to its limits, due to an inability to pass Norris.
A user on social media commented: “Max didn't need to push so hard. Finishing in second place with a gap of either 4 seconds or 23 seconds earns you the same points.”
Jos Verstappen responded with a hint of sarcasm, “You still don't get it, do you?”
