### “Jorge Martin Weighs in on Bagnaia-Marquez Crash at Aragon MotoGP, Eyes Championship Lead Ahead of Misano
Jorge Martin has shared his thoughts on the collision between his championship contender Pecco Bagnaia and Alex Marquez during the Aragon MotoGP race.
Jorge Martin improved his chances of winning the championship at the Aragon Grand Prix last weekend, maintaining his impressive streak of performances, while Francesco Bagnaia suffered a crash.
Martin had come to Aragon with a five-point deficit to Bagnaia in the World Championship standings, following the Italian's wins in both the Sprint and Grand Prix events in Austria.
Bagnaia had a disappointing weekend in terms of points, while Martin secured two second-place finishes, continuing his streak of placing second in all six races since the summer break.
Bagnaia's weekend culminated in a late-race clash with Alex Marquez. Despite a rough beginning, Bagnaia fought his way up the ranks and caught up to Marquez's rear wheel with seven laps remaining.
During the 18th lap, Marquez veered off course at turn 12. As Bagnaia attempted to capitalize on the situation, they collided and both crashed at turn 13.
During the post-race press conference, Martin shared his perspective on the incident, though he noticeably hesitated to strongly endorse any particular stance.
"It's challenging," Martin mentioned. "You ought to inquire with Pecco Bagnaia and Alex Marquez."
"Certainly, it was hard to see clearly due to the heavy dust in that area. I believe Alex couldn't lean further, similar to Joe Roberts' situation in Moto2 when he crashed on the final lap while competing with his American Racing teammate Marcos Ramirez. Ultimately, this led to a collision."
"I hope they aren't injured since they appeared to be near the bikes after the crash. I wish them well for the next race."
Following the incident, Bagnaia visited the medical center where scans revealed no bone fractures. However, the Italian rider mentioned experiencing pain in his neck and left shoulder.
The upcoming event in the MotoGP World Championship, the San Marino Grand Prix, is set to take place this weekend at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli. In 2023, Bagnaia participated in this race with a leg injury following a crash at the Catalan Grand Prix. This year, he will similarly have only a week to recover after Aragon to prepare for Misano.
Despite Bagnaia securing two victories at Misano in the MotoGP category, it was Martin who clinched both wins in 2023. This year, the Spanish rider heads into his competitor's home race with a 23-point advantage in the championship.
