Trackhouse Aprilia Confirms Wilco Zeelenberg’s Departure at End of 2024 Season: Davide Brivio Announces Strategic Shift
Davide Brivio has announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will be exiting Trackhouse Aprilia after the conclusion of the 2024 season, with the confirmation taking place during the Aragon MotoGP event.
Davide Brivio, the principal of the Trackhouse Aprilia team, announced last weekend that Wilco Zeelenberg will depart from the team after the 2024 season.
Zeelenberg, who started with the Trackhouse team when it was initially known as the Petronas SRT Yamaha team in 2019, will depart from the satellite Aprilia project after its second season with the Noale brand, now operating under the Trackhouse name.
In an interview with MotoGP.com pit lane reporter Simon Crafar ahead of the Aragon MotoGP race at MotorLand last Sunday, Brivio, who became part of Trackhouse at the start of 2024, shared that Zeelenberg's exit was a "very difficult" decision to make. He mentioned that this move is part of the American-owned team's efforts to explore a "new direction".
Brivio commented on Zeelenberg's exit, saying, "We had conversations about this and made the decision together. Wilco deserves a lot of recognition for his contributions."
"To be frank, when I got here, I discovered a team that he has assembled over the years. Most of this team will remain the same next year, so he deserves a lot of recognition for what he has established."
"As Trackhouse, we believed that we needed to explore a new path for the future. While it's unfortunate in some ways, it's also a business decision."
“Reaching this decision has been incredibly challenging and tough.”
Zeelenberg's next steps remain uncertain. Known for his past victory in the 250cc Grand Prix, the Dutchman served as a team manager for Jorge Lorenzo and later Maverick Vinales in the factory Yamaha MotoGP garage. In 2019, he took on the role of team manager for the Petronas SRT team.
