Jonathan Wheatley to Depart Red Bull for Audi F1 Team Principal Role After 2024 Season

Wheatley has played a crucial role at Red Bull for many years, serving as the sporting director.
He played a crucial role in establishing Red Bull as the top Formula 1 team for pit stops, achieving two world records in the process.
Wheatley became more well-known during the 2021 Formula 1 season due to his televised discussions with the then race director, Michael Masi.
Wheatley is Audi's newest significant hire, coming after the addition of ex-Ferrari chief Mattia Binotto.
He will maintain his position at Red Bull until the end of the year, after which he will take a sabbatical in 2025.
Christian Horner, the team principal, honored Wheatley, saying, "Jonathan has been with us for over 18 years, and it's been a fruitful partnership. His efforts have been pivotal in securing six World Constructors’ Titles and seven World Drivers’ Championships. Initially serving as Team Manager and more recently as Sporting Director, his impact will always be remembered in our team's legacy."
Jonathan is set to stay in his role through the conclusion of the 2024 season, as the team aims to successfully defend their World Drivers’ and World Constructors’ Championships. He will then take a gardening leave in 2025.
Horner also announced that they will unveil a new "team structure" later this month.
The entire team at Oracle Red Bull Racing and Red Bull Technology extends their best wishes to him in his new position and expresses their gratitude to Jonathan. Red Bull Racing boasts significant strength and depth, which allows for the promotion of other team members. A new team structure will be revealed in the upcoming weeks, he clarified.
