Jacques Villeneuve’s ‘Simplistic’ Criticism of Daniel Ricciardo Debunked as Aussie Shines in Montreal
Jacques Villeneuve's "simplistic" criticism of Daniel Ricciardo "isn't accurate."
"While Jacques has the right to his viewpoint, it was wonderful to watch Daniel silence his detractors."
Jacques Villeneuve has been informed that his negative comments about Daniel Ricciardo were inaccurate and overly simplistic.
Former Formula 1 champion Villeneuve created a buzz at the Canadian Grand Prix last weekend by harshly criticizing Ricciardo.
Villeneuve raised doubts about why Ricciardo was still competing in F1, leading to a sharp retort from the well-liked Australian.
Tom Clarkson, the host of the F1 Nation podcast, mentioned that Ricciardo faced some criticism from former world champion Jacques Villeneuve.
"I'm not sure if that motivated Daniel, but I would describe his weekend as very impressive."
“Undoubtedly his best performance since returning to Formula 1 midway through last season.
"I would describe it as the Daniel from before…"
Natalie Pinkham expressed her thoughts, stating, "Jacques has a right to his opinion. However, I believe his perspective on Daniel's career was rather simplistic."
"It’s not accurate to claim that he has spent five years in the sport and faced difficulties the entire time."
He was dropped from McLaren because of his subpar performance, but he managed to secure a spot at AlphaTauri. Unfortunately, he then broke his hand and had to reclaim his position once more.
"Jacques has the right to his viewpoint, but it was fantastic to watch Daniel silence his doubters in the most effective manner, by performing well on the track."
"The qualifying session was amazing. It was disheartening to watch him and Yuki drop positions at the beginning. There seemed to be a problem."
Clarkson noted, "They also lost positions at the beginning in Imola."
Pinkham added, "It's ironic that he received a penalty for a false start, a decision that still confuses him and experts in the sport."
"Did you notice him make a move? The wheel might have shifted a bit, but it didn't leave his designated area to gain any benefit."
He completed his penalty and finished in eighth place, partly due to Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon colliding with each other.
"In general, Canada is a circuit that plays to his strengths. It's where he secured his first grand prix victory, making it a place filled with fond memories for him."
"Every driver on the grid looks forward to returning to tracks where they have strong performances."
"It gives you a mental uplift."
"It's great to see Daniel proving his critics wrong; let's hope it lasts."
Daniel Ricciardo, whose slim chances of securing the second Red Bull seat for 2025 were dashed with Sergio Perez's contract extension, showcased his skills once again in Montreal.
The running back secured an eighth-place finish, which was a positive outcome following a slump that had drawn criticism from Villeneuve.
