**”Jack Doohan Steps in for Esteban Ocon in Canadian GP: Alpine’s Potential Future Star Shines in FP1″**
Potential replacement for Esteban Ocon, Jack Doohan, is set to take over for Alpine in the first practice session at the Canadian Grand Prix.
Jack Doohan will have an opportunity to showcase his skills to the Alpine team during the first practice session at the Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix.
Alpine's junior and reserve driver, Doohan, is set to take over Esteban Ocon's position for the initial one-hour practice session at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve this Friday. This event will be Doohan's first participation in an FP1 session for the 2024 season.
The 21-year-old Australian, whose father is the renowned motorcycle racer Mick, is in the running for a permanent position with Alpine next season.
This follows Alpine's announcement that Ocon will leave the team when his contract ends at the close of the year, resulting in an empty seat next to Pierre Gasly, who is anticipated to remain with the French team.
Doohan, who secured third place in the Formula 2 championship last year, has previously participated in four FP1 sessions for Alpine, with the latest being at the 2023 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
Doohan expressed his enthusiasm about participating in the first practice session in Montréal, stating, “I’m really looking forward to getting on the track for FP1.” He mentioned that it would be his debut at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve, a prospect he eagerly anticipates.
"I appreciate the team's chance to spend additional time on the track and get accustomed to the 2024 equipment early in the season. This experience will also benefit my simulator work, especially during the European events."
"My priority will be to do what's best for the team, optimize the session for both drivers, examine specific test components, and get a grasp of the new track surface."
Alpine's team principal, Bruno Famin, has stated that both Doohan and junior driver Victor Martins are "excellent" candidates for the team's 2025 driver roster.
"We're in no rush and have excellent drivers in our academy, particularly Jack and Victor, so there's no pressure," Famin stated.
"Our main priority should be to enhance and develop the team."
