Jack Doohan Prepared for Alpine Debut in 2025: Damon Hill Endorses Australian Prodigy as Ocon’s Likely Successor
Potential successor for Esteban Ocon at Alpine deemed "exceptionally ready" for F1 introduction
Damon Hill evaluates Jack Doohan – the top candidate to sign with Alpine for the 2025 season.
1996 Formula 1 world champion Damon Hill is confident that Jack Doohan will be exceptionally ready for his probable first race with Alpine in 2025.
Doohan is said to be the top choice to take over Esteban Ocon's spot at Alpine.
The individual from Australia has been a key member of the Alpine team for the past few years, significantly contributing as a simulator operator and backup driver.
He's undergone a rigorous training schedule with the team in anticipation of a probable debut in F1.
Alpine had aimed to persuade Carlos Sainz to come on board, but the Spanish driver chose to go with Williams instead.
Doohan is widely recognized as the leading candidate to succeed Ocon in the upcoming year, joining forces with Pierre Gasly.
On the F1 Nation podcast, Hill shared his perspective on Doohan.
"He expressed, "Jack demonstrates exceptional skill behind the wheel. He has proven his capabilities on the track. His intelligence and curiosity stand out. He's always engaged, thoroughly preparing with his team by asking the necessary questions."
"Undoubtedly, he presents an intriguing opportunity to explore. Unlike Ollie Bearman, who has already made his mark by participating in a race, he doesn't yet have a proven track record in F1. However, many of these athletes show great potential."
"They're thoroughly ready, ensuring they'll face no issues upon entering F1."
Doohan's prospects have improved because there are no other suitable choices available.
Considering the pool of available drivers, Zhou Guanyu stands out as a potential choice, especially due to his connections to China.
Despite his potential, his performance in 2024, when paired with Valtteri Bottas who was considered the top choice after Doohan, has been extremely disappointing.
Bruno Famin, the former leader of the Alpine racing team, acknowledged just before the summer hiatus that they are getting Doohan ready for a potential full-time driving role in 2025.
"He's undergoing preparation," he said. "He's facing an extensive series of tests, and we're pleased with this approach."
"Let's observe his progress. He's one of several potential options, but he definitely represents a possibility."
