Jack Doohan Poised for F1 Debut as Alpine Considers Replacement for Departing Esteban Ocon in 2025
Jack Doohan is a strong candidate to join Formula 1 in 2025, potentially taking over Esteban Ocon's spot at Alpine.
Jack Doohan is now considered a strong candidate to debut in Formula 1 with Alpine in 2025.
Prior to the Canadian Grand Prix, Alpine revealed that Esteban Ocon will not be racing with them next season.
Pierre Gasly is anticipated to stay with the team from Enstone, which means they will have one open position.
F1's Lawrence Barretto has indicated that Doohan, a member of their driver academy, is a leading candidate for the position.
In the 2023 FIA Formula 2 championship, Doohan secured a third-place finish and achieved three notable wins.
According to Barretto, Alpine might promote Doohan to demonstrate the effectiveness of their junior program.
He mentioned that the team at Enstone holds him in high regard, noting his speed and popularity within the group. Additionally, Alpine is eager to demonstrate that their Driver Academy offers a real opportunity to reach the highest levels.
The young man, aged 21, is the offspring of renowned Motorcycle icon Mick Doohan, who secured five premier world titles in motorcycle racing.
Alpine's team principal, Bruno Famin, is interested in the possibility of re-signing Carlos Sainz.
Sainz teamed up with Nico Hulkenberg for a little more than a year.
The German defeated the Spaniard prior to the Spaniard's move to McLaren in 2019.
Apart from Sainz, another potential contender for the second Alpine position is Valtteri Bottas.
Bottas is also receiving interest from Williams and Haas as they aim to strengthen their driver rosters.
One possible option for Alpine is Mick Schumacher, who is currently competing for the team in the World Endurance Championship.
The ex-Haas racer is considered to be a long shot.
