Internal Clash: Horner and Marko’s Divergent Visions for Red Bull’s 2025 F1 Driver Line-Up
Christian Horner and Helmut Marko disagree about RB's 2025 F1 team
Christian Horner and Helmut Marko have conflicting views on who should be in RB's driver line-up for the 2025 F1 season, as reported by David Croft.
David Croft, who commentates for Sky Sports F1, thinks there is a distinct disagreement between Christian Horner and Helmut Marko regarding Red Bull's driver roster for the 2025 season.
At the conclusion of the 2024 F1 season, the contracts for both Red Bull drivers will expire, and there are three potential candidates being considered.
Yuki Tsunoda, Daniel Ricciardo, and Liam Lawson are all competing for those positions.
Tsunoda has significantly outperformed Ricciardo in 2024, holding a 7-1 lead in their qualifying matchups.
RB's CEO, Peter Bayer, has voiced his contentment with the team's existing roster of drivers.
This might result in Lawson being benched again in 2025, despite his impressive substitute performances with Tsunoda last year.
During the most recent episode of the Sky F1 podcast, Croft discussed the differing opinions that Marko and Horner hold regarding the drivers for Red Bull Racing.
In other news, questions are swirling about Daniel Ricciardo's future. Commentator Croft speculated, "Is Ricciardo staying or leaving?" He then suggested that if Helmut Marko had his way, he would be eager to introduce Liam Lawson into Red Bull Racing.
"Even if your approach is assertive, if you're Dr. Marko, your main responsibility is to recruit promising young drivers and demonstrate the continuous influx of exceptional talent within the Red Bull team. However, will Dr. Marko still be part of the Red Bull organization by the season's end?"
"Christian Horner is likely keen to retain Daniel Ricciardo at Red Bull. From a marketing perspective, Ricciardo is excellent; he's a confirmed race winner and still capable of performing well. I believe Horner would want to provide him with that chance. The question then is, who is responsible for making that decision, and are there one or two seats available at Red Bull?"
"If Marko remains in his position of authority, it seems likely that Liam Lawson and Yuki Tsunoda will continue. However, if Marko departs, the situation may change to Liam Lawson and Daniel Ricciardo, leaving Yuki Tsunoda to seek opportunities elsewhere. I also noted that Tsunoda is being considered by Haas."
Even though Tsunoda has been performing exceptionally well, Red Bull did not consider him as a potential substitute for Sergio Perez.
The Mexican driver has secured a fresh two-year contract with the team, ensuring his stay at Red Bull through the conclusion of 2026.
Tsunoda is interested in Aston Martin, which will start using Honda engines in 2026.
Simon Lazenby believes that Tsunoda needs to maintain his current performance to advance his position in future races.
"He’s had some bad luck, but you can't just stick with one engine maker," Lazenby remarked. "You have to create your own opportunities and strategize. If you depend entirely on them, your choices are restricted by their decisions. Yuki just needs to keep racing the way he is."
"Driving assertively while consistently earning points, demonstrating his reliability. All our conversations assume that Verstappen will continue with Red Bull."
