Hyundai i10 Crowned City Car of the Year 2023: Triumphs Over Fiat 500 and Toyota Aygo X
2023 City Car of the Year: Hyundai i10
Auto Express has named the Hyundai i10 as its City Car of the Year for 2023, with honorable mentions going to the Fiat 500 and Toyota Aygo X. Measuring just under 3.7 meters in length, the Hyundai i10 is the smallest vehicle to win in the 2023 New Car Awards. This win is particularly important given the increasing congestion in urban areas and the growing number of consumers looking to reduce their expenses.
The i10 stands out as the top choice among its peers. The 2023 model update has not only added some visual enhancements but also incorporated advanced technology typically found in more expensive, larger vehicles. Features like a digital dashboard and ambient lighting elevate the interior experience, while the addition of new safety systems, including forward-collision warning with pedestrian and cyclist detection, speed-limit assist, and lane-keep assist, mark significant improvements.
However, acquiring this technology hasn’t diminished the driving pleasure of the i10. It remains incredibly easy to maneuver in urban areas; its light steering, small turning radius, and compact size make it not just simple to handle, but one of the rare vehicles that are genuinely enjoyable to drive in confined spaces.
Despite its compact size, it remains sophisticated and mature, making it suitable for longer journeys. The ride quality is remarkably comfortable for a car of its size, and its nimble handling allows you to fully utilize its range of engines, from the 66bhp three-cylinder petrol to the 99bhp N Line.
No matter which i10 model you opt for, it will be highly fuel-efficient; the 83bhp 1.2-liter four-cylinder engine can easily achieve 50 miles per gallon during regular driving. If you’re considering moving to a smaller vehicle, this one won’t disappoint.
Our selection:
Hyundai i10 1.2 Premium, priced at £17,520.
Although the sporty N Line is the most fun to drive, our favorite is the mid-range Premium trim with a 1.2-liter petrol engine. It offers a smooth and lively performance that’s well-suited for highway driving.
Praised
Fiat 500
An electric drivetrain that is quiet, efficient, and environmentally friendly is ideal for urban vehicles, and the Fiat 500 excels in this regard more than any other model. Its blend of outstanding efficiency, impressive range, and attractive design makes it an exceptional option.
Toyota Aygo Cross
The Toyota Aygo X demonstrates that compact vehicles can still offer a bold character. Its robust, SUV-like design and striking two-tone paint options make it visually appealing, and the fuel-efficient three-cylinder petrol engine keeps operational expenses minimal.
