Hulkenberg Unfazed by Audi F1 Management Shake-Up, Eyes Future Success
Nico Hulkenberg describes Audi F1 exits as "surprising" | "Not worried" about what's ahead
"It definitely created a stir, a bit of surprise. But now, of course, it's time to focus on the work at hand."
Nico Hulkenberg has acknowledged that the recent changes in leadership within Audi's F1 team took him by surprise.
This week, Audi revealed that former Ferrari chief Mattia Binotto is set to lead the German team's Formula 1 project, following the departure of both Andreas Seidl and Oliver Hoffmann.
Seidl held the position of CEO at Sauber, with Hoffmann serving as the chairman of the board.
Nonetheless, sources indicated that a conflict for control between the two was a key factor behind Audi's choice to implement a shift.
The duo played a key role in recruiting Hulkenberg to their squad, where he will be moving next year from Haas.
In a conversation with the press in Belgium, where Crash.net is on-site in the paddock, Hulkenberg discussed the recent developments at Audi.
"Obviously, they had an impact, as they were the pair we negotiated the agreement with," he commented.
"In a surprising turn of events, I received the news directly from Gernot Donner on the day it was announced. The group has made a collective decision to embrace change in their future direction."
"In my opinion, for massive projects such as this one, the management includes key individuals who are crucial to the project's success. However, it's not dependent solely on one or two people. And in Formula 1, everyone can be replaced."
"Regarding Mattia, it's true that our paths have crossed before in the paddock, though we've never collaborated professionally. However, that's set to change in the coming months."
Hulkenberg dismissed the idea that the alterations suggested any "instability" within the project.
"No, I'm not worried," he continued. "Certainly, it was somewhat surprising and unexpected. However, now it's clearly time to focus on work again. I'm still eager to be a part of that project and to contribute to its success, regardless of the departure of the two individuals who played a significant role in bringing me on board.
"Admittedly, it might seem somewhat melancholic, however, my excitement lies more with the prospect of partnering with Audi in Formula 1 and turning it into a triumphant narrative."
Hulkenberg is of the opinion that the timing of the decision clearly indicates Audi's deep involvement and commitment.
He emphasized that the active involvement and decisive actions of Audi's CEO and his team highlight their deep commitment and hands-on approach, which he views as a highly positive development.
