Helmut Marko Alleges Secret Release Clause in Carlos Sainz’s Williams Contract Amid Speculation
Helmut Marko asserts that Carlos Sainz's contract with Williams includes a release clause. "It seems there is a provision in his agreement…"
Helmut Marko, an advisor for Red Bull, has suggested that Carlos Sainz's contract with Williams F1 includes a hidden release clause.
Williams revealed last week that Sainz will leave Ferrari to join their team for a minimum of two years.
The decision concluded months of rumors regarding Sainz's future and its effects on the broader driver market.
Sainz hesitated to join any other mid-tier teams as he awaited developments at Red Bull and Mercedes.
In the end, Williams achieved a significant victory by bringing in the grand prix champion.
Evaluating Sainz’s switch to Williams, he mentioned to Speedweek: “Carlos’s choice to join Williams makes sense, given the lack of other options available to him.
Based on their achievements, Audi is not expected to be among the top teams next year. As for Alpine, it's unclear whether they will switch to Mercedes engines in 2025 or wait until 2026. Given his circumstances, this seemed like the optimal choice for him.
"It's undoubtedly unfortunate that he's having his best season with Ferrari but isn't securing a spot with a leading team. However, progress is expected at Williams, where he also has a powerful engine."
Marko asserts that Sainz's contract with Williams includes a release clause that permits him to depart if a team with a superior standing makes an offer.
He mentioned, "It seems his contract includes a provision that permits him to depart if a significantly superior team makes an offer."
Marko's proposal conflicts with the opinion of Williams' team principal, James Vowles.
Vowles emphasized that very few individuals are aware of the details in Sainz's contract, and any talk of things like an exit clause is merely conjecture.
"According to Vowles, speaking to media outlets like Crash.net during a virtual press conference last week, only 10 individuals worldwide are fully aware of the contract's details."
"The Carlos team and I are fully aware of its contents. Any information you've come across online is purely speculative."
