**”Hamilton on Norris vs Verstappen: ‘Fortune Needed’ in F1 Title Battle”**
Lewis Hamilton shares his thoughts on Lando Norris' potential to surpass Max Verstappen for the F1 championship
Lewis Hamilton's perspective on the competition for the F1 title between Lando Norris and Max Verstappen.
Lewis Hamilton, a seven-time world champion, thinks that Lando Norris will require “some luck” in order to surpass Max Verstappen in the race for this year’s F1 world championship.
Following his win in the previous Dutch Grand Prix, Norris trails Verstappen by 70 points with nine races to go.
Hamilton was the most recent driver to clinch the championship for McLaren, achieving this feat in 2008
During a media session at Monza on Thursday, which included Crash.net, Hamilton discussed the current title race and considered if Norris still has a shot.
He commented that while there are many points still available, it’s not entirely out of reach. He noted that Max likely only needs to secure a second-place finish in each remaining race to clinch the championship. Even if someone else were to win every race from now on, it wouldn't suffice without some luck on their side.
McLaren has a much better shot at winning the constructors' championship, as the gap between the two teams is only 30 points.
McLaren's most recent victory in the constructors' championship was in 1998.
In 2007, Hamilton and Fernando Alonso technically accumulated the highest points, but the team was disqualified from the constructors' championship due to the spy-gate controversy.
Hamilton expressed his enthusiasm, saying, "What truly excites me is the genuine possibility that McLaren might secure the constructors' championship. This prospect is incredibly thrilling, especially since I was part of the team when we last clinched the title."
"It was clearly taken from us, but based on how we performed that year, we deserved to win it. I don't believe there's been another one like it since."
Should Norris manage to reduce Verstappen’s lead, it could create Formula 1's first real championship battle since 2021.
Hamilton is optimistic that the competition between the two will continue until the very end.
He mentioned that this could be quite thrilling, not just for the individuals involved but for the sport as a whole.
“I wish it comes down to the last moment because that would be fantastic for the fans. However, based on their performance last weekend, they might be able to do it.”
