Hamilton Firm on Ferrari Move Despite Mercedes’ Recent Surge
Lewis Hamilton stands by his choice to switch from Mercedes to Ferrari, asserting that Mercedes' advancements haven't led him to rethink his move.
Lewis Hamilton remains confident in his choice to switch from Mercedes to Ferrari, even though his former team has been performing notably well in the latest Formula 1 competitions.
Mercedes surpassed Ferrari in performance for the second consecutive race during this weekend's Spanish Grand Prix.
Hamilton clinched his inaugural podium position of the season, coming in third, surpassing his Mercedes counterpart, George Russell.
In Barcelona, Ferrari's racers secured the fifth and sixth positions, respectively.
In the latest competitions, Mercedes has shown significant enhancement, thanks to several upgrades that have yielded immediate results.
On the other hand, despite Ferrari introducing new enhancements to their vehicle, they have not made a significant advancement.
Hamilton remains unapologetic about his choice to sign with Ferrari for the upcoming season.
"Absolutely not. To start with, my admiration for Mercedes runs deep," he expressed. "Ever since I was 13, my allegiance has been with Mercedes, and my support for them will forever remain. Currently, my focus is to dedicate all my efforts alongside my team and those at the factory to advance and refine the car as best we can."
"In the end, no matter what path and direction the team takes in the upcoming year, for instance, there are aspects that I've hopefully contributed to and feel honored to have been involved with. I'll begin my role next year with another team, which I believe is performing admirably.
"I believe they've encountered some challenges in the recent races, however, it's important to remember they secured a victory in Monaco. It's beyond my knowledge to pinpoint exactly what issues their vehicle is facing or the reasons behind their current standing.
"They indeed introduced improvements here, and I believe they are truly advancing. So, yes, but it in no way causes me to doubt my decision whatsoever."
Looking ahead, Hamilton is of the opinion that Mercedes requires additional improvements to effectively challenge Max Verstappen and Lando Norris.
He clarified, "That's the peak capacity we've reached for now. However, we are constantly making minor adjustments to improve it. Throughout the year, we continually refine its performance."
"We have to add some additional elements to stand a chance against these competitors."
