**Hamilton Brushes Off Norris’ Cold Comment: F1 Veteran Reflects on Age, Pressure, and Team Dynamics Ahead of Belgian GP**
Lewis Hamilton clarifies tense conversation with Lando Norris
Lewis Hamilton has minimized the significance of his uncomfortable cooldown room interaction with Lando Norris, according to Lewis Larkam's report from Belgium.
Lewis Hamilton mentioned that the chilly interaction he had with Lando Norris in the cooldown room following the F1 Hungarian Grand Prix "didn't trouble him."
Following McLaren's achievement of their first one-two finish since the 2021 Italian Grand Prix, with Oscar Piastri winning his first F1 race ahead of teammate Lando Norris, Hamilton tried to offer praise to Norris.
In the Budapest cooldown room, Hamilton remarked, "You all are quick."
"Sure, but you owned a speedy car seven years back," Norris replied sharply.
Hamilton responded, "Seven years ago? That’s quite a while back. Were you even around at that time?"
In response, Norris stated, “You had your chance with a fast car and capitalized on it. Now it's our turn.”
However, the seven-time world champion minimized the significance of the awkward interaction during his media briefing on Thursday before this weekend's Belgian Grand Prix.
"No, it didn’t trouble me," Hamilton clarified. "You see, I'm approaching 40 now, so I can recall my mid-twenties quite well. When I reflect on some of the things I said back then, I realize I might have expressed myself or responded differently."
"I realized that after finishing a race, especially if you think you should have won, your emotions are running high. I understand that it's partly due to age, so I don't take it to heart. In the end, all of us drivers and competitors put immense pressure on ourselves, and that's how we achieve what we do."
"I believe that achieving greatness requires self-imposed pressure. You need to set ambitious goals, and if you fall short but remain overly relaxed and content, you likely won't reach your full potential."
"Absolutely, it's possible to be overly self-critical. I remember a period when I was his age where I stayed in my room for three days straight. I understand how that feels. It wasn't good for my well-being, but I don't think I've ever gone three days without looking at myself in the mirror."
“I really hope he doesn’t do that. What matters most is that we keep up our current efforts. The drivers are excellent, and they have an amazing car.”
Hamilton was subsequently questioned about whether he believed McLaren made the correct choice in directing Norris to relinquish the lead to Piastri.
"It's not my decision," he emphasized. "If it had been Max, he wouldn't have allowed him to get by. I'm at a loss for words. It's not my place to decide."
"If I found myself in that position, I would follow the team's instructions, no matter how difficult it might be. In the end, it’s not about personal gain; it’s about the 2,000 individuals you're representing and collaborating with."
