**Haas’ Remarkable Resurgence: Team Spirit and Strategic Changes Propel Unexpected F1 Turnaround**
F1's unexpected high performers credit the reason behind their team's surprising improvement.
"When something goes wrong, we need to understand why, but it isn't about blaming anyone."
Last season, Haas ended up at the bottom of the constructors' championship, but they are now surprisingly in seventh place.
They have been the unexpected standout of the F1 season to date and continue to transform as they enter a new phase.
Guenther Steiner stepped down from his role as team principal following Haas' underwhelming performance in 2023, attributing his departure to insufficient funding from team owner Gene Haas.
However, Ayao Komatsu, who previously served as the team's trackside engineering director and has taken over for Steiner, has performed significantly better.
“Scoring 27 points is fantastic – it’s over twice the amount we achieved last year,” Komatsu remarked.
"Moreover, I find it very motivating to observe our collaborative efforts as a team."
"That didn't happen until late last year, so in my view, that's the most significant advantage and definitely indicates we are progressing well."
"Right from the start, I believed we had a lot of talented and incredible individuals. The key was to bring them together and provide them with an environment where they could excel."
No matter who you are – whether you're in IT, software development, race engineering, driving, or finance – everyone must comprehend what they are doing and how it impacts the track performance.
"When you begin constructing that framework and effectively communicating the message, and once everyone understands their role, it fosters a sense of teamwork."
"There isn't a culture of assigning blame here; if something goes wrong, we need to figure out the cause, but it isn't about finding someone to punish."
"Creating an inclusive environment where everyone can progress is essential."
Haas has benefited from some outstanding performances by Nico Hulkenberg.
He has managed to earn points in five races and currently holds an impressive 11th place in the drivers' standings.
However, in 2025, both Hulkenberg and his teammate Kevin Magnussen will depart as Haas continues to develop.
Nico Hulkenberg opted to join Sauber to lead their Audi initiative, whereas Haas announced they would not be extending Kevin Magnussen's contract.
British teenager Ollie Bearman, who made a notable impression racing for Ferrari in Saudi Arabia as a stand-in for the ill Carlos Sainz, is set to join Haas as a full-time driver next season.
Haas has signed Esteban Ocon from Alpine for the upcoming season.
