Haas F1 Team’s Equipment Held in Zandvoort Amidst $9 Million Debt Dispute with Former Sponsor Uralkali
Haas' F1 cars and equipment will remain in Zandvoort until the team settles its outstanding debts with former sponsor Uralkali.
The Haas F1 team will keep their cars and equipment in Zandvoort until they settle their financial disagreement with ex-sponsor Uralkali over unpaid debts.
Haas initially intended to depart during the night, but their vehicles carrying the cars and gear must now await authorization before heading to Monza for the Italian Grand Prix scheduled for next weekend.
A representative from Haas has told Crash.net that the team will keep their gear at the Zandvoort track until they receive confirmation of payment from Uralkali.
On Friday, Haas reimbursed what is believed to be $9 million, though Uralkali has not yet received the money. The Russian firm initiated legal proceedings in the Netherlands on Thursday to confiscate the American team's assets just before the Dutch Grand Prix.
At this point, there are no indications that Haas will face any issues participating in the Italian Grand Prix. As long as their trucks leave on Monday as planned, the team is expected to proceed with their preparations smoothly.
Sky’s Craig Slater explained that the team had a conflict with their previous sponsor, Uralkali, a Russian company owned by billionaire Dmitry Mazepin. Dmitry’s son, Nikita Mazepin, was a driver for the team.
"The agreements were terminated, and Uralkali managed to secure a refund of $9 million they had paid in advance for sponsorship. They pursued legal action in the Netherlands."
Essentially, this implies that the Haas trucks cannot depart from the track until the payment is settled.
The cars have been loaded onto the trucks. Haas acknowledges that they need to make the payment. They are currently in the process of doing so, but the trucks cannot depart until the payment is completed.
"The resolution might not come until the next morning, causing a delay for them. However, my understanding is that the issue will be resolved. There's no doubt that Haas will participate in the Italian Grand Prix at Monza in one week."
