MotoGP Rider Ratings in Germany: Top Scores of the Season for Three Competitors…
Crash.net provides an analysis of the rider ratings from the German MotoGP.
Francesco Bagnaia – 10
Bagnaia got off to a fantastic start from fourth position, but couldn't keep up with Jorge Martin and Miguel Oliveira in the sprint, ultimately securing third place by keeping his teammate Enea Bastianini behind him. During the main race, Bagnaia was on track for a second-place finish when Martin's crash from the lead brightened his prospects.
Marc Marquez – 9.5
Despite a disastrous exit in Q1, Marquez staged an impressive recovery to finish sixth in the sprint race. He faced the challenge of riding with bruised ribs and a fractured finger on Saturday. In the grand prix, Marquez delivered an outstanding performance, securing second place even after his screen was damaged in a collision with Franco Morbidelli at the first turn.
Alex Marquez – 9
Alex Marquez had a solid weekend, but the sprint race proved challenging as he couldn’t maintain his initial grid position. Riding for Gresini, he ultimately ended up in ninth place. This was his top performance of the season, with Marquez impressively clinching third place, just trailing his brother.
Enea Bastianini – 8
After bouncing back impressively in the sprint race, Bastianini showed solid speed in the latter part of the main race. However, he couldn’t keep up with Marquez, who managed to outpace both Morbidelli and Bastianini while they were fighting for fourth place.
Franco Morbidelli – 8.5
Franco Morbidelli delivered one of his standout performances since becoming part of the Ducati team, securing a fifth-place finish after a fierce contest with Marc Marquez and Maverick Vinales in the sprint. He even climbed to second place during the main event and was an early frontrunner for victory, executing an impressive overtake on Bagnaia for the second spot. Although Morbidelli's pace diminished as the race progressed, he managed to stay within the top five.
Miguel Oliveira – 8.5
Miguel Oliveira delivered his most impressive performance of the 2024 season so far. After an excellent qualifying session, he earned a well-deserved second place in the sprint race. Although he fell out of podium contention just past the halfway mark, he remained competitive for the majority of the race and was the sole rider to pose a significant threat to the Ducati dominance.
Pedro Acosta – 7
Despite facing challenges, Acosta concluded the weekend as the leading KTM rider once more. After an error left him at the back in the sprint race, he improved his performance in the grand prix to secure a commendable seventh place.
Marco Bezzecchi – 6.5
Marco Bezzecchi advanced from Q1, surpassing Marc Marquez, and finished the German MotoGP strong, progressing from 12th place to secure an eighth-place finish.
Brad Binder – 5.5
KTM continued to face difficulties throughout the German MotoGP weekend, which affected Brad Binder's performance. Despite an early collision with Marc Marquez on the first lap, the South African rider remained largely unperturbed and finished just three-tenths of a second behind Acosta at the finish line.
Raul Fernandez – 6
In contrast to his teammate Oliveira, Raul Fernandez lacked the speed necessary to maintain a points-scoring position during the sprint race, quickly falling behind. He faced comparable difficulties in the grand prix, although his decline in position was less pronounced.
Fabio Quartararo – 6
Fabio Quartararo put in a strong performance despite the Yamaha being slower than its competitors this weekend.
Maverick Vinales – 5
After leading the practice session on Friday, Maverick Vinales experienced two significant crashes before the sprint, one of which was a severe highside at turn ten that impacted his race performance. During the main race, Vinales was within the top ten but made an error at turn seven, causing him to fall out of the running.
Jack Miller – 4
Jack Miller's challenging 2024 season persisted in Germany where he succeeded in keeping Augusto Fernandez at bay. However, this struggle was merely for the 13th position.
Augusto Fernandez – 3.5
Despite demonstrating potential for the GASGAS Tech 3 team during practice sessions, Augusto Fernandez was unable to carry that performance into the actual races.
Takaaki Nakagami – 4
Nakagami, who was the leading Honda rider, put in an impressive effort to narrowly edge out Luca Marini by under 0.05 seconds, securing the last available point.
Luca Marini – 4
Marini had a significantly better weekend, frequently surpassing the speed of his teammate Joan Mir.
Johann Zarco – 4
It wasn't the weekend Johann Zarco had anticipated, as he found it difficult to maintain speed consistently.
Stefan Bradl – 4.5
Despite being penalized for obstructing Marc Marquez during the first qualifying session, Bradl managed to move past the setback and unexpectedly finished in front of Mir.
Joan Mir – 3
The Spanish rider had a disappointing weekend; the 2020 world champion remained largely inconspicuous during the grand prix.
Remy Gardner – 4.5
Despite finishing at the back of the pack, Remy Gardner demonstrated moments of promise while filling in for Alex Rins.
Jorge Martin – 5
Jorge Martin temporarily lost his lead during the sprint but quickly ended Francesco Bagnaia's five-race winning streak by passing him on the second lap and securing a decisive victory. However, the grand prix didn't go as smoothly for the former championship front-runner. With just two laps remaining, Martin crashed while leading the race. This costly error, which is likely to weigh on his mind, allowed Bagnaia to claim the win and could prove crucial in the season's final standings.
Fabio Di Giannantonio – 6
On Friday, Fabio Di Giannantonio experienced a significant crash at the first turn, resulting in a substantial injury to his right shoulder. Despite this setback, the Italian rider managed to perform admirably in the qualifying rounds, although he later fell behind in the sprint race. Unfortunately, Di Giannantonio had to withdraw from the grand prix due to a mechanical problem.
