The FIA revealed that Russell's Mercedes met the minimum weight requirement of 798kg during their preliminary inspection.
After draining a fuel sample from the car, which amounted to 2.8 liters, the vehicle was weighed once more and found to be below the weight limit.
According to the rules, every car must meet the minimum weight requirement after the race.
Following the race, the FIA reported that car number 63 was weighed and found to be 798.0 kg, meeting the minimum weight requirement set by TR Article 4.1.
Subsequently, fuel was extracted from the vehicle, totaling 2.8 liters. However, the car was not completely emptied of fuel as per the drainage method outlined by the team in their compliance documents, in accordance with TR Article 6.5.2.
"The vehicle's weight was rechecked using the FIA's internal and external scales, registering 796.5 kg. The accuracy of both sets of scales was verified and observed by the competitor."
"Since this is 1.5 kg under the minimum weight specified in TR Article 4.1, which must be adhered to throughout the Competition, I am forwarding this issue to the Stewards for their review."
Should Russell be disqualified, Hamilton will secure the 105th victory of his Formula 1 career.
Oscar Piastri is set to advance to the second position, moving ahead of Charles Leclerc.
