Ford Recalls Over 37,000 Vehicles Including 2023 Mustang Mach-E Due to Faulty Windshield Wiper Motors
2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E included in recall over faulty windshield wiper motor
The 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E is one of three Ford models being recalled due to an issue with the windshield wiper motor. The recall also affects the 2023-2024 Ford Maverick and the 2023 Ford Bronco Sport, with a total of 37,371 vehicles involved.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that a malfunction in the front windshield wiper motor could lead to wiper failure in certain vehicles. This issue may impair driver visibility and heighten the likelihood of an accident.
Ford became aware of the problem on April 16. Upon investigating, the company found that the cause of the failures was water entering the motor, which was linked to the incorrect application of a sealer between the gear cover and the gear housing.
The motors in question were put together by a vendor on two specific occasions: June 18, 2023, for the Mach-E and Maverick models, and September 1, 2023, for both the Maverick and Bronco Sport. Across these dates, a total of 2,142 motors were constructed. The affected Mach-E models were manufactured at the Cuautitlan, Mexico, facility between July 3 and July 17, 2023, impacting a total of 3,603 vehicles.
The Mavericks were assembled at the Hermosillo facility in Mexico from June 20 to September 29, 2023, while the Bronco Sports were produced at the same location from September 3 to October 6, 2023. These well-liked models account for the remainder of the vehicles involved.
Ford has acknowledged 81 warranty claims spanning its three models, noting that it has not received any reports of accidents or injuries related to the problem.
Ford will cover the repair expenses. Vehicle owners should take their cars to dealerships for an inspection and possible replacement of the windshield wiper motor.
Ford plans to inform owners on August 26. Additionally, owners may reach out to Ford customer service by calling 1-866-436-7332 and mentioning recall number 24S51.
