Ferrari Edges Ahead of McLaren in Rain-Soaked Canadian Grand Prix Practice, Says Lando Norris
Lando Norris acknowledges that Ferrari holds a slight advantage over McLaren following the practice sessions for the Canadian Grand Prix.
Lando Norris thinks that Ferrari is "definitely somewhat ahead" of McLaren following Friday's F1 practice sessions for the Canadian Grand Prix.
The practice sessions at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve were interrupted by rain, preventing all teams from completing any significant laps on a dry track.
Norris succeeded in leading the morning session, during which most of the laps were completed using intermediate tires.
In the second session, Norris found himself at the very end of the standings, trailing Fernando Alonso by five seconds.
In spite of the constantly shifting circumstances, Norris seems to understand the ranking, with Ferrari leading.
"We didn't gain as much knowledge as we'd hoped, but we did learn quite a bit… However, we didn't learn much in dry conditions," Norris admitted.
"We probably completed the least number of laps compared to everyone else when it was dry… Not ideal, but we managed a decent number in the wet conditions and we're in a fairly good position."
"At the moment, it appears that we are slightly behind. The Ferraris definitely seem to have a bit of an advantage."
"I'm unsure of our current position because the situation is constantly shifting. Whether the optimal moment is during the first lap or the last lap, it significantly impacts everything, but right now, I have no clue."
Team principal Andrea Stella has forecasted a "busy weekend" due to more rain expected.
He mentioned that rain disrupted both of today’s sessions. As a result, they didn't gain much insight into tyre performance, car configuration, or their competitive standing.
"However, it’s possible that we’ve already gathered the most crucial details, as the situation might remain unchanged throughout the weekend."
"The effort in running paid off, and at the very least, we managed to give something to the fans who showed up to support us today."
"We must maintain our concentration, apply the lessons learned from today, and prepare for a busy weekend ahead."
