Ferrari Boss Fred Vasseur Stresses Unity Amid Charles Leclerc’s Recent F1 Performance Dip: ‘No Finger Pointing
Ferrari insists there is no blame game despite Charles Leclerc's recent F1 performance downturn.
"We are definitely not in a position to assign blame," they stated.
Ferrari's team principal Fred Vasseur has stated that the team is not engaging in blame games despite a series of challenging results following Charles Leclerc’s win in Monaco.
The Scuderia began the 2024 season impressively, as Carlos Sainz clinched victory in Australia and Leclerc secured four podium finishes in the initial seven races, eventually triumphing at the Monaco Grand Prix.
Since that time, however, each driver has only made it to the podium a single time. In Austria, front wing damage and a strategy error following a subpar qualifying session at Silverstone resulted in Leclerc finishing races without earning any points.
Although Leclerc finished in fourth and third place in the next two races, he mentioned after the Belgian Grand Prix that he believed Ferrari's car was currently the fourth-fastest.
Vasseur acknowledges that mistakes have occurred from both parties during the first half of the season. However, he states that Ferrari is not looking to assign blame. He thinks that Leclerc's frustrations arise from his high expectations.
“It’s challenging for the entire team, not only Charles,” Vasseur shared with formula1.com.
"Following the Monaco race, we experienced a challenging period. However, in Canada, our performance was relatively strong."
It is evident that the car has become somewhat harder to handle in recent races, and Charles's expectations have also risen.
"Experiencing highs and lows is part of being on a team. We consistently engage in conversations with Charles."
"He understands our circumstances, including our strengths and our errors, and he acknowledges that he's made some mistakes himself."
“We’re not trying to blame anyone for this situation.”
"We've collaborated for a long time and understand each other completely. We recognize that we are making an effort and just need to address some issues."
“We are definitely not in a position to assign blame. This is also where having a personal connection is beneficial.”
As the summer break arrives, Leclerc finds himself in third place in the standings with 177 points, trailing championship leader Max Verstappen by 100 points. Meanwhile, Ferrari holds the third position in the constructors' championship.
