Fernando Alonso responds to the rumors about Adrian Newey possibly joining Aston Martin.
Fernando Alonso has been reserved in his comments about the possibility of Adrian Newey, the renowned Red Bull F1 designer, becoming part of the team in 2025.
According to The Times, Newey has engaged in discussions with Aston Martin's owner, Lance Stroll.
A British newspaper has revealed that Newey received a private tour of Aston Martin's Silverstone headquarters.
Aston Martin has poured significant resources into enhancing their design center over the past year, as they aim to establish themselves as a leading team in Formula 1.
Starting in 2026, the team will receive their engines from Honda, making them an official works team as Honda's exclusive partner.
Securing Newey would be a major achievement for Aston Martin, considering his impressive history and his reputation as the best F1 designer ever.
Alonso has agreed to stay with Aston Martin through the end of 2026, following a contract extension signed earlier this year.
Nevertheless, prior to the Spanish Grand Prix, Alonso declined to engage with the conjecture, labeling the reports simply as "rumors."
"There are numerous inquiries regarding that," he stated. "I've seen the speculations and the reports, but they all originate from the same sources and websites that, a week ago, claimed he had joined Ferrari and that an announcement would be made at noon before the Canadian Grand Prix."
"Gossip is just gossip."
Aston Martin is encountering tough rivalry from Ferrari in their bid to sign Newey.
Newey has previously turned down offers from the Scuderia because he was worried about moving to Italy.
Alonso was subsequently asked how he would persuade Newey to become a part of Aston Martin in the upcoming year.
He responded succinctly: "That's something just between us."
