**”Fernando Alonso Downplays Adrian Newey Rumors, Calls for Team Effort as Aston Martin Struggles Continue”**
Fernando Alonso Addresses Adrian Newey Speculation, Denies Any Upcoming Announcements
Fernando Alonso dismisses excuses amid Aston Martin's difficulties
Fernando Alonso emphasizes that resolving Aston Martin's issues requires more than a single individual, despite ongoing rumors connecting Adrian Newey to the team.
Rumors circulating in the Monza paddock during the F1 Italian Grand Prix hinted that Aston Martin might reveal the acquisition of Newey in a matter of days.
Newey, who is currently serving as the chief technology officer for Red Bull, is set to leave his position early next year, at which point he will be able to join a competing Formula 1 team.
Speculation about his potential move to Aston Martin has intensified lately, while rumors of him joining Ferrari have diminished.
At Monza, Alonso commented, "Right now, it's all just speculation, and I believe resolving the issues isn't the responsibility of a single person."
"It's about focusing on our current situation and our ongoing projects. We need to identify what's working well and what isn't, and use that knowledge to better prepare for 2025."
If Newey is free next year, he could supervise the design of the 2026 car for a different team, possibly offering them a crucial edge when the new engine regulations take effect.
Aston Martin has channeled significant funds into a new facility at Silverstone and has extended Alonso's contract through to the end of 2026. Additionally, they will collaborate with Honda to develop an engine that meets the upcoming regulations.
However, up to that point, the outcomes have been rather disheartening.
Aston Martin currently holds the fifth position in the constructors' championship standings. During the Italian Grand Prix, Fernando Alonso secured the 11th spot, while his teammate Lance Stroll finished in 19th place.
The year 2025 could serve as a period of preparation for Aston Martin, laying the groundwork for a significant push in
“There’s nothing we can do,” Alonso responded. “We’re relying on our team, and both Lance and I are putting in our best efforts each weekend.”
"A weekend filled with inspiration, such as this one for me, I understand will remain entirely anonymous."
Throughout this year, Lance and I have often finished races just seconds apart, whether he was ahead or behind. This weekend, I managed to perform slightly better. I felt good about the car and pushed it to its limits, possibly even beyond 100%. As a result, I secured the 11th position.
"Indeed, it's disappointing. We must remain patient and keep in mind that our primary goal is 2026."
"However, I believe that as a group, we can come to terms with not competing for a top-four spot. These teams are elite and significantly ahead of us."
"However, being outperformed by Williams, Haas, and Red Bull indicates that we need to elevate our standards. Improvement is necessary."
Alonso commented on the car for the next year, stating, "I believe we still have time to make adjustments."
“Within a span of four months, McLaren went from being in last place to securing a spot on the podium. This provides us with clear examples
"Mercedes began the season just like we did. We were on par with them for the initial four races, and they've already secured three victories this year. Therefore, I don't believe in making excuses."
However, it’s improbable that Aston Martin will see progress in the upcoming races.
Alonso expressed his frustration, stating that the current performance of the car is inadequate and will remain so until it receives an upgrade.
"Performance in Monza was lacking. It wasn't up to par in Zandvoort, Spa, or Hungary either."
"In my opinion, significant changes won't occur in Baku, Singapore, or Austin unless we introduce new components."
"That's the strategy. The team understands the circumstances. Everyone is giving their all. So, yes, we remain united and continue to strive. Last weekend we secured one point. Today, we almost earned two points, and that's the challenge we face."
