**”Fernando Alonso Downplays Adrian Newey Rumors Amid Aston Martin Struggles: ‘It’s Not Just One Man’s Job'”**
Fernando Alonso dismisses speculation about an imminent announcement involving Adrian Newey
"I don’t like making excuses," states Fernando Alonso amid Aston Martin's difficulties
Fernando Alonso emphasizes that resolving Aston Martin's issues will require more than the efforts of a single individual, despite ongoing speculation connecting Adrian Newey to the team.
Rumors circulating in the Monza paddock during the F1 Italian Grand Prix suggest that Aston Martin might reveal Newey's signing in the coming days.
Newey, who is currently the chief technology officer at Red Bull, is set to leave his position at the beginning of next year and will then be able to join a competing Formula 1 team.
Rumors suggesting that Aston Martin could be his next team have intensified lately, while speculations about a potential move to Ferrari have diminished.
At Monza, Alonso mentioned that there are just rumors at this point and emphasized that resolving issues is not the responsibility of a single person.
"It's more about our current situation and our production. It's about identifying what's progressing well and what's not, so we can better prepare for 2025."
Next year, Newey's availability could enable him to manage the 2026 car for a different team, possibly providing them with a significant edge when the new engine regulations come into effect.
Aston Martin has poured significant resources into building a new facility at Silverstone and has secured a contract with Alonso that extends through 2026. They will collaborate with Honda to develop an engine that meets the upcoming regulatory changes.
However, up to this point, the outcomes have been quite dismal.
Aston Martin is currently in fifth place in the constructors' championship standings. During the Italian Grand Prix, Fernando Alonso secured the 11th spot, while his teammate Lance Stroll ended up in 19th place.
The year 2025 could serve as a preparatory period for Aston Martin before they make a significant push in 202
“There’s nothing we can do,” Alonso responded. “We’re reliant on our team, and I believe both Lance and I are putting in our best effort every weekend.”
"From my perspective, I anticipate this weekend to be entirely anonymous. It's a weekend that has sparked my inspiration."
"This year, Lance and I have been extremely close in performance, often finishing just two or three seconds apart, whether ahead or behind. Today was one of those weekends where I performed slightly better. I was pleased with how the car handled and pushed it perhaps beyond its limits, which resulted in an 11th place finish."
"Yes, it's disappointing. We have to be patient and realize that our main goal is set for 2026."
"However, I believe that, as a team, we can come to terms with not competing for a top-four spot. The leading teams are significantly ahead of us."
"However, currently being outperformed by Williams, Haas, and Red Bull signifies that we must elevate our standards. We need to improve."
Alonso commented on the car for next year, stating, “I believe we still have ample time to make adjustments.”
“McLaren went from last place to reaching the podium in just four months. We have obvious examples of this.”
"Furthermore, Mercedes began the season on equal footing with us. We matched Mercedes in performance for the initial four races, and they’ve already secured three victories this year. Therefore, I don’t believe in making excuses."
However, it is improbable that Aston Martin will see any progress in the upcoming rounds.
Alonso expressed his frustration, stating that the car's current performance is insufficient until improvements are made.
"Fell short in Monza. Underperformed in Zandvoort, Spa, and Hungary."
"I believe there won't be significant changes in Baku, Singapore, or Austin unless we introduce new components."
Here’s the strategy. The team understands what’s going on and is working extremely hard. We’re staying together and continuing to make efforts. Last weekend, we earned one point. Today, we almost got two points, and that’s the challenge we’re facing.
