**”Fernando Alonso Dismisses Adrian Newey Rumours as Aston Martin Struggles Persist: ‘No Excuses’ Amid F1 Challenges”**
Fernando Alonso addresses “speculation” about Adrian Newey announcement this week
"I don’t like making excuses," says Fernando Alonso as Aston Martin faces challenges
Fernando Alonso emphasizes that solving Aston Martin’s issues requires more than just a single individual, despite ongoing speculation about Adrian Newey’s involvement.
Rumors circulating in the Monza paddock during the F1 Italian Grand Prix hinted that Aston Martin might reveal their acquisition of Newey in a matter of days.
Adrian Newey, who is currently the chief technology officer at Red Bull, is set to leave his position early next year. At that time, he will be at liberty to join and begin work with a competing Formula 1 team.
Rumors suggesting that Aston Martin will be his next team have intensified recently, while speculation about a potential move to Ferrari has diminished.
Alonso mentioned at Monza that there are still just rumors circulating, and he believes that solving the issues isn't the responsibility of just one person.
"It's more about our current situation and production. We need to identify what's progressing well, what's not, and plan better for 2025."
If Newey is available next year, he could manage the development of the 2026 car for a different team, possibly providing them with a significant edge when the new engine regulations take effect.
Aston Martin has poured significant funds into constructing a new facility at Silverstone and has secured a contract with Alonso that extends through 2026. Additionally, they will collaborate with Honda to develop an engine that complies with the upcoming regulations.
However, up to this point, the outcomes have been quite disappointing.
Aston Martin holds the fifth position in the constructors' standings. Alonso secured the 11th spot at the Italian Grand Prix, while his teammate Lance Stroll ended up in 19th place.
The year 2025 could serve as a period of growth for Aston Martin as they prepare for a major push in
Alonso responded by saying, "There's nothing we can do about it. We're relying on our team, and both Lance and I are committed to giving our best effort each weekend."
"During a particularly inspiring weekend like this one, I am certain it will remain entirely anonymous."
"This year, Lance and I have often finished races very close to each other, usually within two or three seconds apart, either ahead or behind. This weekend, I performed slightly better, felt good about the car, and pushed it perhaps beyond its limits, which resulted in finishing in P11."
"Yes, it's frustrating. We have to be patient and keep in mind that our main goal is 2026."
"However, I believe our team can come to terms with not competing for a spot in the top four. Those leading teams are significantly ahead of us."
"However, currently being outperformed by Williams, Haas, and RB indicates that we need to elevate our standards. Improvement is necessary."
Alonso commented on the car for next year, stating, "I believe we still have time to make adjustments."
"Within just four months, McLaren advanced from the back of the pack to a podium finish. This serves as a clear example."
“Mercedes began the season on an equal footing with us. In the first four races, we matched their performance, yet they've already secured three victories this year. Therefore, I don't support making excuses.”
However, it's improbable that Aston Martin will see advancements in the upcoming races.
Alonso expressed his frustration, saying that the current state of the car is insufficient until it receives an upgrade.
"Fell short in Monza. Underperformed in Zandvoort, Spa, and Hungary."
"I don't anticipate significant changes in Baku, Singapore, or Austin unless we introduce new components."
"We have a strategy in place. Everyone on the team understands what's going on. The team is putting in maximum effort. So yes, we're staying together and continuing to push forward. We got one point last weekend. Today, we nearly secured two points, and that's the fight we're in."
