**”Fernando Alonso Addresses Adrian Newey Rumors Amid Aston Martin’s Struggles: ‘Not a Fan of Excuses'”**
Fernando Alonso responds to speculation about Adrian Newey's potential announcement this week
"I don't believe in making excuses," says Fernando Alonso amid Aston Martin's challenges
Fernando Alonso emphasizes that resolving Aston Martin's issues requires more than just a single individual, despite ongoing rumors about Adrian Newey's involvement.
Rumors circulating in the Monza paddock during the F1 Italian Grand Prix suggest that Aston Martin might reveal the acquisition of Newey in the coming days.
Adrian Newey, who is stepping down as the chief technology officer for Red Bull, is set to leave his position early next year. Following his departure, he will be available to join a competing Formula 1 team.
Rumors suggesting that Aston Martin will be his next team have intensified recently, while speculation about a potential move to Ferrari has diminished.
Alonso commented at Monza, "There are still just rumors, and I believe it's not solely one person's responsibility to make things right."
"It's really about our current situation and what we're creating. We need to identify what's progressing well, what isn't, and work on improving things for 2025."
Next year, with Newey being available, he could manage the 2026 car for a different team, possibly providing them with a significant edge when the new engine regulations come into effect.
Aston Martin has poured significant funds into a new facility at Silverstone and has extended Alonso's contract through 2026. They will collaborate with Honda to develop an engine that meets the upcoming regulations.
However, up to this point, the outcomes have been rather disheartening.
Aston Martin holds the fifth position in the constructors' standings. Fernando Alonso secured the 11th spot at the Italian Grand Prix, while his teammate Lance Stroll came in 19th.
The year 2025 could serve as a period of growth before Aston Martin launches a full-scale effort in 2026
Alonso responded, saying, "There's really nothing we can do. We rely on our team, and both Lance and I are doing our utmost every weekend."
"An inspired weekend like this one from my perspective is sure to remain entirely anonymous."
"This year, Lance and I have often finished very close to each other, usually just two or three seconds apart by the end of the race. Today was one of those times where I performed slightly better. I felt good about the car and pushed it to its limits, perhaps even beyond, which earned me the 11th place."
"Yes, I am disappointed. We must remain patient and keep in mind that our ultimate goal is set for 2026."
"However, I believe our team can come to terms with not competing for a top-four position. The leading teams are significantly ahead of us."
"However, being behind Williams, Haas, and Red Bull means we need to step up our game. We must improve."
Alonso commented on the car for next year, stating, "I believe we still have the opportunity to make adjustments."
"McLaren advanced from last place to a podium finish in just four months. This serves as a clear example."
Mercedes had a similar start to us. We were on par with them for the initial four races, and they have already secured three victories this year. Therefore, I don't buy into making excuses.
However, it is not expected that Aston Martin will show progress in the upcoming races.
Alonso vented his frustration, stating that the car's current state is inadequate and won't improve until it gets an upgrade.
"Performance in Monza was lacking. Results were subpar in Zandvoort, Spa, and Hungary as well."
"I believe there won't be significant differences in Baku, Singapore, or Austin unless we introduce new components."
"That's the strategy. The team understands what's happening. Everyone is giving their all. So, yes, we remain united and continue to strive forward. Last weekend, we earned one point. Today, we nearly got two points, and that's the challenge we'll face."
