Fernando Alonso Addresses Adrian Newey Rumors Amid Aston Martin’s Struggles: ‘It’s Not Just One Man’s Job to Fix Things
Fernando Alonso Addresses “Rumor” About Adrian Newey Announcement This Week
Fernando Alonso Responds to Aston Martin's Struggles: "I Don’t Believe in Excuses"
Fernando Alonso maintains that solving Aston Martin's issues requires more than just a single individual, even as connections to Adrian Newey persist.
Rumors circulating in the Monza paddock during the F1 Italian Grand Prix indicate that Aston Martin might reveal the hiring of Newey in the coming days.
Newey, who is currently the chief technology officer at Red Bull, will leave his position early next year and will then be able to join a competing Formula 1 team.
Speculation about him possibly joining Aston Martin has intensified lately, while rumors of a move to Ferrari have diminished.
"At Monza, Alonso mentioned that although there are still just rumors, it shouldn't be the responsibility of a single person to address the issues."
"It's really about our current situation and our production efforts. We need to identify what aspects are progressing well, which ones are not, and make sure we are better prepared for 2025."
Newey's availability next year could enable him to supervise the 2026 car for a different team, possibly providing them with a significant edge when the new engine regulations come into effect.
Aston Martin has committed substantial funds to a new facility in Silverstone and secured a contract with Alonso that extends until the close of 2026. They are teaming up with Honda to develop an engine that meets the upcoming regulations.
However, up to this point, the outcomes have been quite disheartening.
Aston Martin currently holds the fifth position in the constructors' standings. Fernando Alonso secured the 11th spot in the Italian Grand Prix, while his teammate Lance Stroll ended up in 19th place.
The year 2025 could serve as a period of preparation for Aston Martin before they make a significant push in 202
“There’s nothing we can do,” Alonso responded. “We’re reliant on our team, and both Lance and I are putting in our best effort each weekend.”
"During a weekend like this, when I feel inspired, I am certain it will remain entirely anonymous."
"This year, Lance and I have frequently found ourselves finishing races within two or three seconds of each other, either just ahead or just behind. This weekend, I managed to perform slightly better, feeling satisfied with the car and pushing it perhaps a bit beyond its limits. As a result, I secured the 11th position."
"Indeed, it's frustrating. However, we must remain patient and keep in mind that our ultimate goal is set for 2026."
"However, I believe that as a team, we can come to terms with not competing for a top-four spot. Those teams are elite and significantly ahead of us."
"However, being outpaced by Williams, Haas, and Red Bull is a sign that we need to step up our game. Improvement is necessary."
Alonso commented on the car for next year, stating, "I believe we still have time to make adjustments."
“McLaren went from being in last place to reaching the podium in just four months, providing a clear example of significant improvement."
"Mercedes began the season just like we did. In the first four races, we were on par with them, and they've already secured three victories this year. Therefore, I don't believe in making excuses."
However, it is improbable that Aston Martin will make progress in the upcoming races.
Alonso angrily stated that the car's current performance is insufficient and won't improve until it gets an upgrade.
"Fell short in Monza. Lacked performance in Zandvoort, Spa, and Hungary."
"I believe there won't be significant changes in Baku, Singapore, or Austin unless we introduce new components."
"The strategy is set. Everyone on the team knows what's going on. We're all giving it our maximum effort. We're staying together and continuing to drive forward. Last weekend, we earned one point. Today, we nearly secured two points, and that's the fight we'll continue to face."
