Exclusive: Will Lewis Hamilton Bring Mercedes Secrets to Ferrari in 2025? Damon Hill Weighs In
Could Lewis Hamilton bring significant Mercedes expertise to Ferrari in 2025?
"He needs to be kept out of discussions"
Damon Hill emphasizes that Lewis Hamilton's potential transfer of knowledge from Mercedes to Ferrari would be restricted.
At the start of this year, Hamilton inked an agreement to become part of Ferrari in 2025, aiming to secure his unprecedented eighth Formula 1 championship.
After a three-year drought, he has unexpectedly found the form to win races again, having secured victories in two out of the last three grands prix leading up to the summer break.
Mercedes' comeback has reignited Hamilton's enthusiasm, but as he approaches the end of his tenure with the team, challenges may increase for him.
Former Formula 1 champion Hill stated on the F1 Nation podcast that it has to happen.
"He needs to be kept out of discussions regarding plans for the upcoming year. They are concerned about him potentially sharing information with Ferrari."
"He might not have access to all the information. However, the team is reputable, and Toto is a person of integrity. He will receive fair treatment within the team."
"However, there's a limit to what you can offer when someone is departing."
"It's not like there's a technical expert who must take a break when they switch teams. The drivers can transfer to a new team immediately."
"Drivers don't always have access to or understand all the technical details."
"It's essential to grasp highly intricate technical details, a skill that only a limited number of drivers possess."
“You would have a general idea of the team's activities and direction.
“Lewis might approach Ferrari and explain, ‘we modified our front wing and it resulted in this…’”
"He can inform them, but they likely already have that information. All the teams keep a close eye on each other, ensuring nothing goes unnoticed."
"As a driver, you can't see what's hidden beneath the cover or understand the complexities of the power unit. That involves advanced science. It's impossible to fully grasp what's happening under the hood. There's a limit to how much you can comprehend."
Last month, Hamilton asserted, "I haven't been left out of any meetings" so far.
However, he acknowledged that as the year concludes and his successful period with Mercedes draws to a close, the team needs to deliberate on their 2025 strategies without including him.
Hamilton expressed that he would have no issues if he were asked to step out of a meeting, saying, "If there's a point where they'd prefer me not to be present, that's completely acceptable to me."
At present, Mercedes boasts a significantly more competitive vehicle compared to Ferrari, Hamilton's forthcoming team.
This year, Mercedes has secured victories in three races, with Hamilton winning two of them and George Russell taking one.
At the start of the season, each Ferrari driver, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, has secured a victory.
