EXCLUSIVE: Ferrari Deny Reports of Stalemate in Adrian Newey Negotiations Over Engineer Demands
EXCLUSIVE: Ferrari refutes the allegation involving “20 engineers” related to Adrian Newey
Ferrari addresses assertions made by an Italian newspaper regarding issues in discussions with Adrian Newey
Ferrari has refuted allegations that contract talks with Adrian Newey reached an impasse due to his demands.
On Friday, the Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport revealed that negotiations have hit a "stalemate" due to Newey's demand to bring 20 engineers along with him to Ferrari.
Ferrari has informed Crash.net, who are present in the F1 Hungarian Grand Prix paddock, that the report is false.
Ferrari has not provided any statements about whether they are actually in talks to hire Newey.
An Italian publication had mentioned that the discussions between Newey and Ferrari, which they claimed had been ongoing for two months, faced a "potentially insurmountable" obstacle. However, it can now be disclosed that no such problem actually exists.
Newey is probably the most sought-after person in the F1 paddock, following the announcement that he will leave Red Bull.
If he chooses to join a different F1 team, his leaving early next year will give him the opportunity to contribute to the development of his new employers' car for the 2026 season.
The implementation of new engine rules in 2026 signifies that securing Newey, renowned for consistently winning championships during his illustrious career, could drive a team to superiority.
Ferrari has often been recognized as the frontrunner. Aston Martin is also believed to be keen.
Ferrari had notably fallen short in three prior attempts, but following Newey's announcement of leaving Red Bull, he was said to have had a meeting with Ferrari's team leader Fred Vasseur in London before heading to the Miami Grand Prix.
In past negotiations with Ferrari, his wish to keep living in Britain was a complication, but it seems to be less of a concern now.
Adrian Newey, who is currently 65 years old, is the mastermind responsible for the Red Bull car that has dominated the last three seasons, helping Max Verstappen secure his championship titles.
Newey was also in charge during Sebastian Vettel's four championship wins.
He has played a crucial role in securing 13 drivers' championships and 12 constructors' championships. If he decides to return, Williams, the F1 team he used to work with, would be a nostalgic choice.
The mystery around his next move continues, and Newey has refrained from giving any hints about his future plans when asked.
