Esteban Ocon’s F1 Future: Weighing His Three Potential Paths for 2025
What lies ahead for Esteban Ocon? Three potential paths for his F1 career in 2025
Esteban Ocon's tenure with Alpine is set to conclude by the end of this year. But where might he find himself in 2025?
On Monday, prior to the Canadian Grand Prix, Alpine revealed that they will "separate" from Esteban Ocon once the season concludes.
Since 2020, Ocon has been part of the team, achieving his first Formula 1 podium and win with the Enstone-based squad.
Given Alpine's lackluster performance and the apparent decline in the relationship between the involved parties, it’s not unexpected to witness a shift for the year 2025.
What practical choices does he have for the coming year?
Sauber/Audi
Speculation about a move to Sauber, which is set to transition to Audi in 2026, has persisted throughout the past year.
Although Ocon is not Audi's first choice, he remains a competitive option to partner with Nico Hulkenberg in 2025.
At this point, it's evident that Audi is awaiting a response from Carlos Sainz.
Should Sainz be unable to secure a position with either Red Bull or Mercedes, his remaining alternatives would be Audi or Williams.
Sainz's choice is expected to cause a ripple effect.
If the current Ferrari driver moves to Audi, Ocon will have two obvious choices: Haas or Williams.
Conversely, if Sainz decides that Williams, which will have Mercedes engines in 2026, is the optimal option, then Ocon might secure a spot with Audi.
Haas
Haas is currently seeking a new driver for their team.
F1's Lawrence Barretto suggests that Ocon could be a potential candidate for the American team as they seek a replacement for Kevin Magnussen.
Haas is disappointed with Magnussen's performance, and his season filled with incidents has put him on the verge of receiving a race suspension.
Haas is still considering Ocon, but according to the previously mentioned report, Valtteri Bottas might be their top pick.
The Finnish driver's extensive experience and strong teamwork skills would make him an excellent choice to partner with Oliver Bearman, who is anticipated to secure a full-time position in 2025.
Williams
In the 2025 F1 driver market, Williams has an open seat.
Williams have yet to make a decision on who will join Alex Albon as a teammate.
Logan Sargeant's performance has not improved at all since last year, prompting Williams to consider other possibilities.
There are strong indications that Sainz might join the team, and Bottas has been seen in the Williams motorhome at least twice.
Ocon and his fellow team member Gasly have also been mentioned in discussions, but Ocon's prospects have diminished following a German media report that suggested James Vowles views Ocon as an unlikely candidate because of his past conflicts with teammates.
