**”Drama at Monza: Ricciardo Apologizes for Hulkenberg Clash as Penalties Mar RB’s Italian GP”**
Daniel Ricciardo addresses collision with Nico Hulkenberg: “I believed there was enough room; I said sorry”
Daniel Ricciardo comments on the incident with Haas during the F1 Italian Grand Prix
Daniel Ricciardo mentioned that he apologized to Nico Hulkenberg after the Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix due to a collision that occurred between them on the first lap.
During the first lap of Sunday’s race at Monza, Red Bull driver Ricciardo clashed with Hulkenberg while competing in the middle of the pack at Turn 8.
Ricciardo mentioned that he believed there was enough room, but then he felt a collision. This incident resulted in Hulkenberg's Haas being pushed onto the dirt, allowing Kevin Magnussen, his teammate, to move ahead.
The Australian driver received a five-second penalty for the incident, but later on, he had to serve a 10-second penalty because one of his mechanics touched the car during his initial punishment at the pitstop.
Ricciardo concluded a challenging race on home turf for the Red Bull team in 13th place.
“In the end, we lacked speed today, even disregarding the penalties,” he commented.
"We gave it a shot, and I was having fun with the close racing at the beginning, but I ended up colliding with Nico at Turn 8."
"After the race, I had a conversation with him. I initially believed there was enough space, but when I felt the impact, I realized I hadn't left sufficient room. I apologized for that."
"It's challenging because you push yourself to the limit, but even the tiniest differences can have a big impact."
"The vehicle performed reasonably well afterward, and we exerted maximum effort with the resources available. From Friday afternoon until today, I was focused on extracting the best performance from the car."
"I personally feel much better this weekend, and we nearly earned some points."
Tsunoda 'frustrated' after race
Laurent Mekies from Red Bull stated that the Italian Grand Prix was heavily influenced by Nico Hulkenberg. A collision between the Haas driver and Yuki Tsunoda led to the Japanese driver's early exit from the race.
"I'm quite disappointed; it's unfortunate that my race ended just a few laps in because of a collision with Nico," Tsunoda expressed.
"I attempted to give him plenty of room, but it appears he froze up, lost control, and collided with me."
"Regrettably, we had to withdraw the car from the race due to floor damage."
"I noticed it immediately and attempted to keep going, but the vehicle was skidding, and I just couldn't control it."
"We're heading to Baku and Singapore next, where our car is expected to perform strongly. We're optimistic about having successful weekends there."
Mekies is upset about the Tsunoda incident because it cost him important time on the track with the newly updated RB car that was brought to Monza.
“Regarding today's race, it could be argued that Hulkenberg set the pace. Daniel received a five-second penalty after pushing him off the track. Subsequently, Nico collided with Yuki, which resulted in us having to retire the car,” he stated.
"The most disappointing part about Yuki's retirement is that we missed out on 40 laps that could have helped us learn more about the new updates we implemented here."
"Daniel was given an additional 10-second penalty because the initial one was not applied properly."
"We need to reassess our protocols in light of today's error and draw lessons from it. While such incidents can occur, our pit crew's performance has been outstanding overall this season."
