Oscar Piastri discloses he had a broken rib while securing victory at the Hungarian Grand Prix
Oscar Piastri has revealed that he was dealing with a broken rib ahead of the F1 summer break.
Oscar Piastri disclosed that he was dealing with a broken rib during the latter part of the opening half of the 2024 Formula 1 season.
On Sunday morning, the McLaren driver posted pictures on social media showing that he had been recuperating from an injury for several weeks leading up to the summer break.
"The initial segment of the season is complete. Achieved my first Grand Prix win. Suffered my first bone fracture. My rib is appreciating the downtime," Piastri wrote in the caption.
One of the images provided features an X-ray revealing a fracture in his sixth rib.
The photo was marked with the date Monday, July 8, which was the day following the British Grand Prix. Piastri secured fourth place in the Silverstone event.

The X-ray's timing indicates that the 23-year-old Australian was experiencing some discomfort when he secured his first F1 win at the Hungarian Grand Prix, which occurred two weeks after the X-ray.
Piastri has had an impressive beginning to the 2024 season, and as they move into the latter part of the year, he holds the fourth position in the drivers' championship standings.
He secured his fourth top-three finish of the season at the Belgian Grand Prix, coming in second place behind Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes.
Piastri has accumulated 167 points, putting him 110 points behind the championship's current leader, Max Verstappen, and 32 points short of his teammate, Lando Norris.
McLaren ranks second in the constructors' championship, trailing Red Bull by only 42 points.
