Daniel Ricciardo has disclosed his ultimate Formula 1 dream team, surprisingly excluding Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen.
Despite securing a historic seven world championships and achieving the highest number of grand prix wins and pole positions, Hamilton was not included. Similarly, Verstappen, who is poised to win his fourth straight world championship with Red Bull this year, also did not make the list.
Instead, Ricciardo chose the iconic seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher, whom he would pair with 1978 world champion Mario Andretti.
The team leader chose Eddie Jordan, the Australian who established and ran Jordan Grand Prix.
"Ricciardo expressed his admiration to F1.com for Mario Andretti, particularly highlighting Andretti's achievements in both American motorsports and Formula 1, noting his championship victories in both arenas."
"He had a lot of depth in his driving skills. I’d definitely include him in the list. Next, it would be a toss-up between Senna and Schumacher; they seem like the clear choices.
"I'll choose Schumacher, as I think most people would pick Senna. His ability to provide technical insights, in my opinion, was unparalleled. As for managing the team, I'd go with Eddie Jordan!"
Ricciardo, who has clinched victory in eight grand prix races, was queried about which three personalities from Formula 1's history or current scene he would choose to have dinner with.
He chose James Hunt, the 1976 world champion, alongside his ex-McLaren colleague Lando Norris and Valtteri Bottas, narrowly surpassing his present Red Bull racing partner, Yuki Tsunoda.
"James Hunt," Ricciardo responded. "I believe a touch of that is essential. Certainly, those drivers who are more laid-back! Making Lando chuckle is quite straightforward, so I find that enjoyable. Having a good laugh matters.
"I must admit, Yuki was quite amusing at last year's driver dinner. He's got a great sense of humor. And [Valtteri] Bottas, with that mullet of his, definitely earns a spot at the dinner. Way to go, Valtteri. I reckon he's got a little bit of the Australian spirit in him."
