Daniel Ricciardo Stays Cautious Amid Speculation of Red Bull Return: ‘Crazy Things Happen
Daniel Ricciardo hints at a potential return to Red Bull, saying, "Anything can happen."
"Is there any evidence that I might be going somewhere else?" he asks.
Daniel Ricciardo asserts he lacks any "evidence" that a return to Red Bull is being considered.
Sergio Perez's poor performance has sparked renewed discussions about his role alongside Max Verstappen, even though he signed a new contract earlier this year.
Perez added to his own challenges during the qualifying session for the F1 British Grand Prix on Saturday by spinning out at Copse, which left his Red Bull car stuck in the gravel. He ended up with a disappointing 19th place in the qualifying standings.
Christian Horner was seen expressing his disappointment by shaking his head.
"I would never try to predict anything in this sport," Ricciardo mentioned at Silverstone when questioned about taking Perez's place. "It seems that with each passing year, this sport becomes more unpredictable."
"I understand that the sport is growing in popularity. It's gaining more attention and becoming more high-profile, almost like Hollywood."
"The storyline that accompanies the sport nowadays is much more unpredictable, almost like something out of Hollywood."
"Therefore, do I possess any evidence that I will be in a different location? I do not."
"Unpredictable events occur, but I'm definitely not in a position to state, believe, or foresee such outcomes."
"So I just keep trying to do my thing. Clearly, that didn't happen today.
"However, once more, I understand that it's not about placing blame entirely on others. I felt that there was little else I could do given the circumstances we created for ourselves."
Daniel Ricciardo, driving for Red Bull's secondary team, secured the 15th position in the qualifying session for the British Grand Prix scheduled on Sunday.
He began 2024 fully re-engaged in the racing circuit following his return to AlphaTauri midway through the previous season.
Ricciardo being there was meant to jeopardize Perez’s position at Red Bull.
However, due to the Australian's lackluster performance and a string of second and third-place finishes by Perez, trailing his teammate Verstappen, a new deal was secured for the existing Red Bull driver.
Perez's performance has significantly declined, putting him under intense scrutiny once more.
