Daniel Ricciardo Remains Optimistic Despite Red Bull Door Closure for 2025 F1 Season
Daniel Ricciardo remains hopeful about a future return to Red Bull, even though he did not secure a spot for the 2025 F1 season.
Red Bull decided to re-sign Sergio Perez for another two years, a decision they announced just before the Canadian Grand Prix this weekend. This choice meant that both Ricciardo and his Red Bull teammate Yuki Tsunoda were passed over.
Since world champion Max Verstappen is signed through 2028, it implies that, at least theoretically, no position will be open until at least 2027.
Still holding on to his ambition, 34-year-old Ricciardo remains optimistic about rejoining the main Red Bull team before he retires from Formula 1.
In Montreal, Ricciardo stated that he wasn't surprised and that it didn't affect him at all.
"Clearly, my ultimate aim is to return there eventually. However, I am aware that my performance this season has not been outstanding."
"I had an amazing experience in Miami, but overall, I've been experiencing some highs and lows. I've been at this for a while now, and I know I can perform at a higher level."
“From the very first races, my main goal was to give my absolute best. By doing that, I believed I could have the greatest influence over what comes next in my career.”
"I admit that I might not have performed at my best so far, but I'm genuinely pleased to be back with the Red Bull team. We're going to keep pushing ahead."
"I don’t believe Perez's contract extension means it's no longer a possibility. We'll have to wait and see. If I’m still around next year, I'll be pleased."
In other news, Tsunoda expressed his desire for "greater dedication" from Red Bull as he aims to remain with the team for another season.
"I hope to see greater dedication from the contract," Tsunoda stated. "Clearly, I am already very dedicated to Red Bull, and I wish to receive a bit more dedication from their side as well."
A conversation is currently taking place, and my priority is to ensure that Red Bull and I have a mutual understanding. Once that's established, we'll move forward. However, I am content with Red Bull.
Perez still has to prove himself over the next two years, and in this competitive setting, anything is possible. Congratulations to him. As for me, I'll stay focused on my own work and continue to demonstrate my abilities.
"I need to keep improving, and I hope that Red Bull will notice my development and recognize my potential, which could lead to changes down the line."
