Daniel Ricciardo Focused on Closing Performance Gap to Tsunoda, Puts F1 Future on Hold Despite Praise from RB
Daniel Ricciardo declines to contemplate his F1 future: “My goal is to improve”
Despite receiving positive reviews from RB, Daniel Ricciardo is not considering his future in Formula 1.
Daniel Ricciardo is choosing not to think about his future in Formula 1 with Red Bull, instead concentrating on narrowing the distance between himself and his teammate Yuki Tsunoda.
Throughout 2024, Tsunoda has typically outperformed Ricciardo in both qualifying sessions and races.
The Japanese driver has a 7-1 advantage in qualifying matchups, and the trend continues on race day, where Tsunoda is ahead 6-1.
Although Ricciardo has faced difficulties, his position for the upcoming year appears secure.
RB's Chief Executive Officer, Peter Bayer, has expressed his satisfaction with the current drivers, suggesting that he hopes Tsunoda and Ricciardo will remain with the team for the 2025 season.
Despite Bayer's satisfaction with Ricciardo, the ex-McLaren driver is eager to enhance his performance, admitting his irritation with the current performance disparity compared to Tsunoda this season.
Daniel Ricciardo admitted he hasn’t spent much time considering his future. He expressed his appreciation for the encouraging words, agreeing that it would be fantastic, but emphasized his desire for consistent improvement.
"Reflecting on today, we might identify specific reasons for small losses here or there. However, in Formula 1, there's always something, and perfection is elusive."
"I’m feeling frustrated because of these gaps. The team has been fantastic, but I’m still not satisfied."
Ricciardo is optimistic about his ability to improve the situation.
The Australian expressed his gratitude towards the RB team for being "extremely supportive," while also emphasizing that he won't become "overly complacent."
"They've shown incredible support," Ricciardo mentioned. "They clearly believe in my abilities, but this year has been more challenging to perform consistently every week."
"My main concern now is staying grounded and not getting overly relaxed or enthusiastic about what's to come."
"I aspire to improve, whether it's regarding the car's performance or my own efforts. I mentioned earlier that I didn't feel too bad today, but obviously, it wasn't sufficient."
