Christian Horner Leaves Door Open for Daniel Ricciardo’s Red Bull Return with New Ambassadorial Role Amid F1 Shakeup
Christian Horner has confirmed that Daniel Ricciardo has been presented with a new position to remain at Red Bull, hinting that the door at the team remains open for him.
Christian Horner has announced that Red Bull has proposed an ambassadorial position to Daniel Ricciardo after his departure from Formula 1.
The management at Red Bull has chosen to swap out Ricciardo for Liam Lawson in their secondary team, RB, for the last six races of the 2024 Formula 1 season. It seems that the 35-year-old Australian driver’s participation in the Singapore Grand Prix will be his last appearance in the sport.
In an appearance on the F1 Nation podcast after the announcement of the driver change, Red Bull's team principal Horner emphasized his desire for Ricciardo to stay connected with the team. He also hinted at the surprising potential for the eight-time grand prix winner to possibly make a comeback.
"Daniel is an outstanding individual," Horner commented. "He has an amazing personality that brightens any room he enters, and his smile is truly contagious."
"We never succeeded in securing a toothpaste endorsement with him, despite our best efforts. However, we hope he continues to be involved in the sport, and we've clearly communicated our desire for him to stay on as a team ambassador."
"Naturally, it's always uncertain. If Liam or Checo fail to deliver, we are well aware of what Daniel can achieve."
"At his age, he recognizes that he's had a remarkable career filled with countless memories. One of the most revolting experiences was drinking champagne from his sweaty boot. Nevertheless, he embraced it, and even convinced some amazing individuals to partake in the unusual tradition of sipping champagne from his shoe."
Sergio Perez has been given a new contract extending to the end of 2025, but his place at Red Bull is still in doubt due to his ongoing performance issues compared to Max Verstappen.
When questioned about Red Bull's perfect situation for the upcoming season, Horner answered that ideally, Checo would regain his early-season performance and maintain consistent form.
“As we understand in this industry, two weeks is considered a long period.”
