Jos Verstappen Warns of Internal Strife as Red Bull Faces Leadership Exodus Amid Horner Controversy
Jos Verstappen, the father of F1 driver Max Verstappen, has once again criticized Red Bull Racing's team boss Christian Horner.
Jos Verstappen has escalated his conflict with Christian Horner, the head of the Red Bull F1 team, by stating that his cautions are beginning to materialize.
The conflict originated when Verstappen Sr asserted that the scandal involving Horner could potentially "divide people" within Red Bull. This came after accusations of sexual harassment and coercive, controlling behavior were directed at the 50-year-old.
Horner, who has consistently refuted the accusations, was exonerated following an internal review by Red Bull into the allegations. In August, the woman's appeal challenging the investigation's findings was rejected.
In the coming months, Red Bull has faced significant upheaval with the exits of chief technical officer Adrian Newey, sporting director Jonathan Wheatley, and head of strategy Will Courtenay.
In an interview with Motorsport at the East Belgian Rally, Max Verstappen's father expressed that the recent developments were precisely what he had been concerned about at the start of the year.
“This is exactly what I cautioned against,” Verstappen commented. “The team responds with: ‘It’s not a big deal; we have another person who can fill that role.’”
"There are too many people leaving nowadays. Max is constantly being asked about it, which isn't ideal. Overall, the current situation isn't good."
Jos Verstappen, who canceled his participation in a historic parade at the Austrian Grand Prix upon discovering that Christian Horner had attempted to prevent his involvement, commented: "Horner always downplays the situation.”
Red Bull's performance on the track has faltered lately, allowing McLaren to take the lead in the constructors' championship by 41 points with six races left in the season.
Following seven wins in the first 10 rounds, three-time world champion Verstappen has not won in the last eight races, with his championship lead shrinking to 52 points due to Lando Norris.
